Classic SL W/ Mr Bill mods.

First chance to get out and hunt with my White's Classic SL since having the mods done by Mr. Bill at Surfscanner. Went to my local high school that I have been hunting for thirty years now. I have been finding silver on and off for that entire time. It is getting harder to find the good coins, but when I do it has been worth the extra effort. This trip I found a 1841 Half Dime. It is my first half dime. I found a 1805 Dime many years ago at the same school. The school is built on an old plantation from the 1800s, so I am never surprised at what I might find. The half dime was very deep and gave one of those "iffy" signals. Man am I glad I decided to dig. It is not in the best of shape, but I was thrilled with finding it. The best thing is that the school is about one mile from my house, so I don't waste any of my hunting time traveling. Can't wait to get back, so I can find some more silver this year.

Nice finds! I have the same machine and after about a year of no detecting, I finally went out to a local park this afternoon. I really need to contact Mr. Bill and have the mods done on my machine. I am still fine tuning the GB with a small screwdriver and need to make a change. Bob

Very nice find. Not bad shape for being 168 years old and buried. I cant wait to get my IDX pro moded. It does well but gets a little unstable in high minralized ground.

Hollis, ya done good on that half dime

The classics are definately the " sleeper " in the White's lineup in the 1990's. I did'nt find out about them until reading Montes reviews about the IDX PRO in the year 2007 on the White's Main Detecting forum in the Finds Forum. I ended up with an IDX PRO in Nov. 2007 and really like it a bunch. It is a much better machine than my two previous White's that shall remain nameless.

If I was a betting man I would guess that that "iffy" signal became a more solid signal after you took out the first plug and run the coil back over the target. I just love those kind of signals. Take care...............Hombre

You are absolutely right. I cut a plug with my Lesche digging tool and checked the plug and the hole. The coin was still in the hole, but the signal was better and more repeatable. I was using a White's Classic ID before I got the SL and had the mods done. They are by far, the best detectors for the money, that I have ever used. It was like starting over, when I went back to hunt my previous sites. I am looking forward to re hunting a lot of productive sites from the past. As you can tell, I am sold on the White's machines. The Mr Bill mods just make a great detector even better.
