getting back into detecting, sold my garrett ace 250 because i never used it, i'm now retired, and wanting to buy another. my question is this, i found a used white classic II, at my local pawn shop, gun shop!!!they are asking 229.00$ for it,,, that seems a little steep!!! but i'm not sure,,, any input would be helpfull. getting ready to spend some time at tybee island georgia!!!!thanks

May I suggest you look on classified here for a better deal Sir...

I just sold a very nice one, that had mods. by MR BILL. I let it go for $200.00, Good Luck looking for a good one. Flintstone

went to the pawn shop today, talked em down to 200 dollars on the whites classic sl II, traded a british enfield mk 2 ishapor 308 cal rifle, strait up trade!!!!! works goooood!!! it looks like it's hardly been used.i'm happy!!!!!

High,
The price is not bad, considering what inferior new units cost nowadays.
The best investment you can make after buying a GOOD set of headphones, is to send your control box to Mr. Bill, who will then install a manual ground balance and - if you wish - an adjustable threshold.
This will put you in the league of much more expensive units made by various other companies.

skookum
who just paid top dollar for a mint XLT - my first digital display unit.
And when I say top dollar, I mean 330 GBP.

I second the suggestion for Mr. Bill's modifications, after he did them to an IDX Pro (which I bought due to Monte's recommendation), it has become my favorite detector dropping my Eagle Spectrum and XLT Spectrum to back up status.

I used to live in Savannah and spent many days detecting at Tybee. Always found a bunch of coins and over time a lot of jewelry, mostly rings.

oh yea!!! i can't wait, i'm gonna go down and spend a couple of weeks, im gonna clean it up!!!!!

I think $200 is too high for a Classic II. I'd look for a Classic III for about that price.

High Tom,

Quote jonreb : "traded a british enfield mk 2 ishapor 308 cal rifle, strait up trade!!!!! "

Now I have owned a couple of Lee Enfields when living in Canada - but they were all .303 cal and cost around $100 Can. back then.
Mind you, they were Mk IV (1945) and you could use the hard nosed ammo still in the machine gun belts that were going for pennies a shot.
You were stuck with a 210 grain bullet though, that had enough punch to penetrate a V-8 motor block without any probs.
If he did trade straight up for the Classic II, it still ain`t a bad deal.
With minor and inexpensive modification, the Classic II can be modded to accept the BlueMax type of coils, that the Classic III uses.
In the end, the price being paid is only of concern in the eyes of the guy doing the buying.
If he
