Classic III Depth ?

So. What kind of depth will a Classic III SL with the mods get with a 4x6" DD Shooter coil? Will it get at least 4"-5"? How much less than a Black Max 5.3"? Thanks for any info.

Hi again Rebel1 I've never used the 4x6" DD Shooter coil but I have never heard anyone that has used it liked it.They all said it was a Dud!
Most say it has no depth...at least not enough depth.Maybe from surface down to a few inches. From what I have read it sounds like it might be a shallow hunting coil.It might get decent seperation but hardly any depth. One advantage it might have is finding someone's recently lost ring or jewelry coz you wouldn't be digging deep stuff to look for it.
I have never used any of the other smaller coils from Whites to compare. When I bought My Classic it came with 2 coils. The 9.5 and the discontinued Hot Head High Energy coil which is 5.5 inches outside diameter. It has the same depth as the 9.5 in My soil and air test just as deep.If this small ever bites the dust it's almost impossible to find one just like it.If that's the case then I'll look at the small coils from Whites.
The smaller coils are more sensitiver to tiny targets...and smaller coins.I have found tons of .22 cal lead and smaller using this little coil.I leave
it on most of the time unless I am hunting bigger targets at depth or maybe cache's which I haven't found yet.
I was planning on buying newer technology last year and I've had target id machines with bells and whistles before and this brand and that brand and others.Right now the only thing most newer machines have over my Modified C3SL is a meter and a little faster recovery speed.
In the last few years of all the reading and research I have done There has been so many newer detectors sent back for repair and a lot of them are getting bad coils right off the bat. They keep crying about EMI and digging pry caps and some detetectors are restricted or designed to use DD coils Only.
Like I told You before My Classic 3SL is has NEVER been in for repair OR the coil and it has been dropped and bumped and knocked over very hard in the past 15-16 years or so and it's still going strong! I have nothing at all against newer technology but I'll wait for something to come out that gets better reviews than what I have been reading.
Technically it's really not newer technology..because basically...They are still using target conductivty to help id a target.Nothing really new about that.Sure they are more sensitive but what good is it to have all that extra power if you have to turn it back down to use it? Why design a car to do 200 mph when the speed limit is 70? Even passing someone you don't have to go to 200mph.
My Classic runs very smooth without all the extra racket..even under power lines I get no noise most of the time.I never dig rusty nails because I am not restricted to using DD only.I Never dig pry caps either. And as old as my detector is...it's built in the USA and NO cheap flimsy plastic to worry about. If I lean it against a tree and it falls on the ground over rocks it's still going to work as it should.
For the kind of hunting I do it will hold it's own with the rest.My C3SL won me some prizes in some contest several years ago and people wanted to know what kind of detector I was using. Also around here I have the only 5.5 Hot Head High Energy coil. It's a hot combo!
There was one other person at the time who just got a Classic 3 but didn't know how to use it so I gave him a few pointers and he got to know it better and it worked for him.
I'm Keeping mine as long as it's alive or I'm still alive.I was never dependent on a meter most of the time.I just learn the sound of the machine and I usually know by looking at the disc setting.Once you learn the Classic and know what each setting does you will find the goodies! I especially love using the small coil. It's perfect for what I do.

HH!....Ronk

Thanks for the replies guys. This is the second time i have heard that 4x6 isn't any good for depth. So i guess i will try to find a used Black Max 5.3" or a Blue Max 600 for it. I will have a Blue Max 800 to either sell or trade for one. Can't wait for the unit to get here so i can try it out. Guess i will use the Eagle Spectrum i have coming until the Classic gets here before putting the Eagle up dor sale. Thanks again.

The 950 coil that comes with your Classic lll SL is a really good coil. And just for fun, try it out with your Classic set on low disc and do some testing on 'micro' gold jewelry, it just might impress you.
