Hi all: I recently purchased a used Classic IDX and last night replaced the corroded box screws with stainless ones. After getting in the last screw, I turned on the detector and the thing sounded scratchy and very noisy (via the speaker). After fooling around with it for a while, I discovered that, with headphones it worked fine. Before performing the screw replacements, the detector speaker worked just fine.
So, I shifted the speaker over so that it's now off-center from the speaker holes in the box, but it seems to work again.
It sounds like the speaker may have shifted when I unscrewed the old screws, maybe touching something else?? A ground? Is it ok that the speaker isn't centered over the holes in the box?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Many thanks, Mike
