Classic Garrett Groundhog circuit board help needed

Sven

Well-known member
Recently picked up a non working circa 1986 Garrett AM-2 VLF/TR detector.
Found some broken and chipped resistors, decided to replace them all with new metal film resistors as well as the three electro caps.
I noticed on this particular unit Garrett decided to grind off the IC chip identification numbers. Makes it hard to replace the IC's if you don't know what they are.

By chance someone here also have a AM-2, possibly with the IC number not ground off. If so would it be possible, can you take clear pictures of the circuit board with the IC's. Or does anyone have a schematic?

Thanks

Okay sven have same machine as yours,ic"s clearly marked,Iwill be more than happy to help you out, however dont know how to send pic on computer. Ithink Ican still help though. Im no technician by far but know what ic"s are..My board has a total of 8, 3 long ones and 5 small ones all small has same specs and all longer ones are same. let me know if were on same track and I will send specs printed on them. Not sure what the caps are though. If you could send me pic of your board with arrows or marked somehow Ican get you info that is printed my parts

Sven,

I never knew that Garrett's Manuf. ever ground-off the IC chip identification nos. I have owned several Garrett's and haven't seen any of my past machines with the numbers ground off. . . That's a new one? I will see if I have a schematic laying around. Have you tried Geotech Forums? The may have some people that have and used the older Garretts machines.

Good Luck,

Wile helped me out with the IC numbers he has a AM-2. Wouldn't mind having the schematics anyways.
Thanks

Maybe not always, maybe not all models, but I know from some inside employees of the '80s that it did happen.
