I was wondering if this happens alot to other detectorist . I found 1955 class ring in great shape so i looked in the yearbooks and found out whose ring it was and shipped it to her and not even a thank you note.Ithink if i find any more i am having second thoughts about just keeping it but i dont think thats the right thing to do .My yeller feller found 2 rings that day.Dennis

Did you contact the person first or just blind mail it to them?

I just put it in a box and just mailed it without telling her, dennis

Dennis,
I've returned one dated 1965 to a Gentleman in California. He Graduated from a H.S. in Boston and relocated to California. The ring was stolen and somehow made it's way to Okinawa Japan. After a little help from the people on the Beach/Water forum the owner was found. To make a long story short I got picture of him and the ring united. I include the pic as one of my best finds ever. Nothing better in the world than making someone happy which is priceless. It's too bad the ring you returned came with no thanks. Well I thank you and I think most coil swinger's would too. Keep up the good work.

I have only found one class ring, and did find the owner of it, but contacted him first, to make sure I had the right person and then returned his property to him. If you are lucky enough to find another, make sure you have found the rightful owner first, by contacting them and asking them questions about the found item, like "Did you attend Blah Blah School?" "What year did you graduate?" until you are satisfied that you have the right person and let them know you will be returning it to them, and I am sure you will get a show of gratitude.
I know you were trying to do the right thing and I commend you for doing so, but make sure you have the right person and that they know their item is being returned to them.
Happy hunting,
John

It was a '57 lady's class ring. I had trouble finding the exact school but finally contacted her by finding out her name from the school (band had her initials inside). I simply called people with the same last name in the local phone-book until I found a relative, her nephew. The whole process literally took months.
She called me and described the ring and I sent it to her. Not a word of thanxs... even a card would have been nice.
Don't be discouraged, there are plenty of people out there who DO appreciate an act of selfless kindness. Hopefully the next person you return a ring to will be one.

Yeah since 1955 they could be married and living in another town, dead, or a hundred other things. Hardly anybody stays put anymore.
