Class Ring returned after 24 years

I was talking about my new V3i to a friend of mine last Friday. He told me that his daughter was playing dress up when she was 12 years old and got her moms class ring out of her jewelery box. She went outside and lost it in the yard. That was 24 years ago. On Saturday I went to his house and searched the area alongside of the car port where he said she had lost it. The area was about 15 feet by 30 feet. I searched in High Trash mode and thought I had covered it pretty well and all I had was a few pennies and pul tabs. I changed to C/j program and got a good repeat signal at 3 1/2 inches and cut the plug. At the bottom of the hole the edge of the ring was showing and I pulled it out. I was kind of in shock for a minute, I have never found a ring when I was looking for one for someone. My friend and his wife own their own Mens Shop so I called my wife as whe had gone to school with them and we went together to return the ring. We were so excited to be able to suprise Linda with the ring. We all had a good laugh and Linda couldn't wait to call her daughter, now 36 to tell her the story. What a special moment to share, Thanks for looking, Jim

Very nice, you will remember this. Now get your story and photos to Whites for a small reward.[attachment 192067 Reading.gif]

Congratulations Jim, it looks like you made her a very happy woman and this will be talked about for a long time. A little PR in the local paper will go a long way when asking permission to hunt private property in the future too.

Thanks Guys, This is the second class ring I have been able to return and two Sterling ID bracelets as well. Each time it has been a real thrill to connect with people this way. This was the first time I was able to recover one that I was asked to find so that makes it even more rewarding to me. It is an added bonus to this hobby. I read a post and saw a video called "Lord of the rings" on another forum when I was just getting started in detecting. This guy found a class ring " Water Hunting" and returned it to a Dr that his girlfriend, now wife, had lost in 1954. The local paper did an article and video and it was so cool. I don't want that attention myself but this forum is a great place to share this kind of reward for our efforts. We keep our finds, coins, gold and silver and that is great but anyone can see that a smile like that is worth more than scrap value of a class ring.

What a great story. All of my returned rings were "for hire", recent drops. It would be such a thrill to reunite someone after such a long period of time.

I always place my few jewelry finds on the local Craig's List, but have never had someone claim anything.

great job!!

Congratulations Jim. Great job and an outstanding memory for all involved. Don
