Class ring hunt

pull tab mel

New member
Saturday I intend to hunt a hay field for a class ring that was lost in the seventies. Owner of the ring has passed away and widow would love to have it back. We know where the hay barn was but the property intakes about thirty acres......All she knows is that he lost it somewhere on the property gathering hay.....Any tips as to where to start? Barn site first? Using the T2..... All metal, dig everything? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

It's also possible it came off and worked into the bale of hay as he handled it.

I would start there too. Just knock out iron. Good luck!!

Sorry to be so basic... Any chance you can find a similar ring and get a reading on your machine to know what reading range to look for/focus on? Rings can be all over the map because of size, shape and content variables, but I suspect most of us (I know myself) don't dig non coin readings like we should. Iron proximity masking and all sorts of variables account for places never really getting cleaned out.
Good luck!

Like finding a needle in a hay stack. The needle would be easier to find. Tom has a good point, get the same kind of ring so you can get a TID#. Back when I had horses, I baled lots of hay. I would start at the barn, that`s where most of the work is done while baling, but you will probably find lots of iron. What ate the hay (horses/cows)? You might want to check where they were kept. Then check the hay field, and the route back to the barn. Sometimes we get lucky. And your going to need it. Good luck! I hope to see a class ring post from you.

Odds are you won't find the ring. You will probably find other good treasures while looking though. Good luck.

Didn't find the ring but found other goodies. A couple old toy cars and an eagle belt buckle(I think).....Seems to be an old house place on the spot.
