Clad, Mercs, Wheats great weekend with the Impact

Weather in Virginia wasn't the warmest this weekend but I needed to get out for a while. Saturdays public park dig clenched me another $3 in clad. Sunday I Deceided at 2 I had better go out and dig. Not bad for a few hours. 3 1/4 Mercs, 1 IHP, 2 wheats, 1 44p nickle a buffalo, and another not sure of the date. some buttons, headstamps, fancy silverware, some giant thing that was riveted to something and other stuff.
I have been impressed with the Impact for some time it has great unmasking abilities in the iron.

nice collection of coins and relics. A 3.25 silver hunt is always a good one. Couldn't find the .75 part of that merc ??? :)

Nice mix of old coin finds. Yep, I like the Nokta and Makro machines for hunting in the iron. They do a great job.

David, cool digs for sure, congratulations! I am still after my first merc with my new Impact.

Best of luck in 2018

Yes, the Impact, like other very proven Nokta Detector and Makro Detector models I enjoy, works very well when it comes to finding those partially-masked keepers.

Which search coil were you using, and what mode and settings? The bulk of my Impact hunting is done with the 7" Concentric ... until I get into very dense trash. Then I swap to the 5" DD which is a killer coil for unmasking good targets in a sea of iron debris. Naturally, site selection plays a very important role in our success afield, and you certainly worked a very decent location.

Best of success on future outings with your Impact.

I only had about 3 hours to detect I'm sure it will turn up! I found a 1/4 piece of a reale on a site a few months ago and a week later found another 1/4 of it. So anything's possible!

They will come in time. I'm after a SLQ myself! And my patience is low.

It was a new spot to me in a farm field. I was using the stock coil and mostly hunt in VLX2 mode. I did alot of walking until I found the iron grunts than started slowly working the coil.
I just borrowed the big coil and the next size down from the stock from my buddy Mark. So I have some experimenting to do. I tried to mount the big coil last night but it must come with a different hardware pack. Using the stock coil bolt doesn't seem to work with the large coil.

Yeah, the SQL is a plenty hard to come by and when they do, it's a surprise for sure.

Best of luck!

David, I keep my 14X15 DD mounted on a spare lower rod and had no difficulty with that coil, or any of my Nokta or Makro coils, properly mounting to their respective lower rods. The only times I have seen any troubles folks have had was with one of the rubber washers being nudged out-of-alignment due to a very snug fit with the 'ears' of a coil. Make sure you double check the rod insertion to visually inspect for a nice open bolt hole before installing the coil-mount bolt. By now you might have already accomplished this as I am a bit tardy in my reply. Sorry.

We had a series of five different passing thunder storms on Friday, some with a heavy down powering of rain and one that covered the street and my yard with about 1" of pea-sized hail. Kind of messed up my day of getting out and I think the Impact w/7" Concentric and I managed barely 15 minutes before the soaker arrived. :( Most of my sites that are mostly bare dirt or weedy/brushy exposed-dirt fields are a gooey mess after Thursday and Friday's rains, and it would be favorable weather until Monday & Tuesday. But that's favorable above ground. The ground is a slick muddy mess so I need to fine some grassy urban sites until springtime weather arrives in early April..

As I stated, I have my over-sized DD mounted and ready-to-use, but that is mainly for some contracted Cache Hunting I do as I very seldom can use the bigger coil where I generally hunt. I have four of my detectors in my Tahoe and the other nine hanging here on my den wall. That's 13 detectors, and only 2 of them have their 'standard' search coil mounted. All the rest of them sport one of the smaller-than-stock coils because I hunt moderate to densely littered sites and the standard and larger coils just don't work for me.

I think when the weather breaks on Sunday afternoon and evening, or on Monday or Tuesday, it is going to be an Impact Day afield.
