I took the E-trac to another old house i've not hunted for a while because I stopped finding coins. The only thing left was trash...I thought. Well it was slow..slow sweeps with the coil in QM set with just a hint of dis. I could actually see each piece of metal per say and all of a sudden BANG!, a coin reading....not text book coin but coin area. I would slowly rotate and nitpick the reading out. pinpointing was a bugger with all the other metal, but dang it I was finding coins in with the trash! This is after hunting it with other model detectors several times over the years.

Just starting with the E-TRAC so these setting are what worked for me. Pretty much stock but with changes that I liked during air testing. Andy said to tweek and tune so here you go.

For you guys that's been hunting for a while with the e-trac I put the settings I used up. What do you see that I need to change and why? Thanks for the help and also for talking me into this E-TRAC.
Got to love this machine.

It maybe worth a try on your next trip, .....?

Fact is, your the boss and the man on the job. Our comments are just hunches.

I spend quite a lot of time trying out adjustments on located targets before I dig them. It's a bit tedious, but its the only way to practically learn.

Trouble is. you need your secretary with you to log the outcomes.

Now I carry a small digital voice recorder, as well as my camera.

Presently,I'm trying out my new Minelab 8 inch search-head....It's like spearing fish in a barrel.

Keep us all up-to-date on this one....Thanks...TheMarshall

3ringer, when your out in your trashy house site with that new E trac do you get a null most of the time over the trash in quick mode?
Also being new to the E trac I wonder if you find a noticable difference in the time it takes to recover once it finds the target like the Explorers do?
And one more thing if you would, do you like the way it pinpoints or is it cumbersome or difficult to pinpoint with.
Id like to know what a new E trac user says about that stuff. Ive been reading everyones posts on it just wonder what youd have to say first time out thanks.

utahshovelhead,

NULLING- yes, alot in coin mode so that was the main reason I switched over to hunting in QM/ FE 33 down and that was all. The other machines that have hunted areas also have nulling and mis targets (as I have done at this site in the past) after setting up the E-trac you have to go slow..very slow and pickout each target and watch for that coin to pop out. After I saw/heard a coin or what I thought was a coin I would stop and turn 90-180 deg. to try and make it better. This was with the stock coil (have ordered a 6'' EX and hopefully this will also help) and I found that I could still pull them out even with it, just took some time.

Remember though that your not going to get that perfect coin reading an all that trash but it will be good enough to figure out. just took me some diggin time at first.

RECOVERY TIME- took some time due to once I had my plug out I had to probe through it and remove the tabs, nails ect util I found the coin..but the coins were there. That's what really got me fired up about the E-TRAC.

Was triing pitch hold at first but just to much trash and to often of a change, this is why I made the change to normal 4 tone.

Now by no means am I the guy you should be getting advice from, these guys on here have done nothing but help me in my switch over to the E-TRAC and they continue to do so as you can see from "TheMarshall" post. I have a total of 50 some hours with it so far and learn something every time I take it out and it is getting better each time..well not the machine but me learning what the machine is telling me LOL.

Hope this helps and good luck in the field. HH

Thanks 3Ringer, that last post should help alot of us new Etrac users out. It does me anyway. I have been hearing some good tones mixed in with heavy trash and have tried to walk around it and pick it out better. I end up just leaving alot of them. If I read your post correctly, there very well could be a coin mixed in there and I may need to dig those targets and move the trash out of the way. I will experiment next time out and see what happens. I do know that the Etrac is finding stuff where I have been quite a few times. I went to a place this afternoon where I made it a point to grid off an area and work it from different angles with a DFX and an SE, more than once. My Etrac hit a 1917 wheatie first thing about 4 inches down mixed with trash but it gave me a no doubter 12-42 reading. I am really liking this Etrac!!! Thanks again!
