Clad day at the river, sterling silver cross & chain & car

I went to the river yesterday and meant to get there early, but the best laid plans of mice and men ofter go astray. Found more clad than usual, a 92.5 sterling silver cross & chain and another chain with no markings. 9-quarters, 7-dimes, 5-nickels, and 21 pennies. I was working under the dock when about a dozen people showed up and within the hour quite a few more. Stepped in another deep hole and it finally came to me that someone with a PI detector is digging craters at the river and leaving their holes. One lady with two kids said I did it and I figured I'd get the blame for it. Her two girls and another boy followed me around like the Piep Piper and I really couldn't do as much digging as I wanted for fear of hitting them with my scoop. I went out into neck deep water and it was hard without a weighbelt to stay on target with all the boats up and down the river, wide open. Hurt my left wrist somehow and it's really hurting this am. I let each one of the kids put on my headphones and listen while I waved a piece of a pull tab under the coil. Found a neat little car.
Couldn't take these photos without getting some shade in them. Found a piece of what looks like brass from a shell of some sort and thought it might be some gold, but pretty sure it's brass. First photo is usual trash. I think the stones in the cross are cubic zirconias, but will check next time I get the diamond tester out. I looked them over pretty good with my loupe and they look fake.

Now that's a nice outings worth of loot. Good on the cross and chain and the little car looks neat. Good job. :beers: HH jim tn

Nice pile of goodies.:clapping:

Good stuff Fongu, and nice silver chain!! Hope you get that wrist rested and healed up!! The little auto might be a micro machine. Cool little toys that span many genres, firefighting, military, hot fast cars, boats, planes, Star Wars, Star Trek, and gobs more.

Sure hope that PI fellow stops leaving holes!!

Good hunting, fongu! Nice sterling cross, sterling chain, ??chain, snazzy wheels, gas money - I figure as long as I get home with at least one nice keeper, I'm a happy camper. I think you deserve extra credit for giving the kids a treat, too!

Mighty fine work there Fongu!:clapping:

You know about those holes you stepped in? It might be from some critter... One of my spots there were holes all over the place, under water a couple feet deep...thought maybe somebody beat me to it, but it was all made by geese and swans searching for clams...they stand on their head and dig around, all you can see is their rear end up in the air...they dig a pretty good hole! Also, ..wouldnt that many targets drive a PI rig crazy?

Mud, those holes were in waist deep to chest deep water, I believe it was a human critter that done it. The last trip before this one a man talked about his buddy had two or three detectors, but one of them was too short. I explained that was because when snorkeling or diving in the water and this is what he said he did, you wanted a shorter detector. I think he and his buddy are the culprits and if I run into him again, I will politely mention people filling in their holes.
This one boy comes up to me ever time he sees me and when I told him I found some bullets, he wanted to see them. I gave him two fired 22 rounds and he was a happy camper. I hope to be at the river at 6 am this Saturday and gone before 10:30 when the crowd starts showing up. I've been thinking about this isolated spot a lady gave me permission to detect, but my car is still acting up and I won't drive my Mom's car to this spot. Hope by next weekend my car will be repaired. Another spot I have to detect is in an out of the way place and I'm concerned with getting her car stuck or damaged. There is still more opportunities at this spot on the river, but I need some different scenery. HH.

Well, you are running circles around that guy! :clapping: Let him dig a 2' hole for an empty can! I remember stepping into a deep hole last year that was made by an outboard prop wash...went from waist deep to shoulder deep in a danged hurry! You are thinking right, get in early and out before the crowds...find some alternate spots...might be some real old silver or gold in some of those out of the way places that were once major swimming holes back 100yrs or so...Good Luck Man! It sure is fun to follow your adventures!.:please:..

Nice finds! You got to fill those holes in water too! Some beaches have been put off limits because of those holes.

You're right, John. All it takes is one person not being ethical and we all suffer. Hoped to be at the river at 6 am today, but personal things kept me from getting there until almost 2 pm. Over 100 people there and very crowded. I was stuck in the swamp area to stay out of their way.
It came up a storm with thunder and most of them got out of the water and I moved over where I found the gold and found two small sterling silver ear rings for pierced ears. Almost threw one of them back and just did see it in time. It got so dark and I was wearing sun glasses, but when the lightning started, Fongu departed. Will post photos tomorrow. The river has been good to me. They were not recent drops by any means, the small one at 4 inches and the larger one at 6 inches. HH.

Bully!👍

It's been in the high 90's to 100 for about a week, but the water was icy cold today. Not cold as Muds Michigan water, but for me, it was cold.

wow you had quite a day! Love the chain and cross.

It tested real and the diamonds did, too. Only thing is I don't have a moissanite tester to make sure they are not moissanite stones. Guess I'll have to take them to a jeweler sooner or later.
