Civil War Site Gives Me A First- Buttons and Coin

I hit a nearby place that has a small amount of Civil War history. I was able to spend about an hour there. I've been there many times before and have dug all the easy signals. It's very infested with iron signals within about 6 feet of the building and then it cleans up a bit the further out from the building that you go.

I used my small 4x6 sniper coil with hopes of finding something mixed in all the iron signals. I was digging all good repeatable signals. I dug a ton of nails and other iron misc. pieces.

The first keeper I got was the 1865 3 Cent Nickel. I didn't know what it was when I found it in the hole. It is dime sized and thin. I could make out the portrait and date on front, but not on back. I didn't know what it was until I got home and cleaned it up. I knew it was old, and knew I hadn't found one before, so I was happy no matter what since it was a first for me. For you MXT owners out there- this coin rang up as a VDI 6, which is foil. That's why it was such a surprise- I was not expecting a coin to ring up as foil.

Second was the old button with the eagle on it. I imagine it is Civil War since I've previously found a staff officers button there. It is smaller than the Union Staff Officers button that I found previously. It will be given to the site, as all my finds there, so they can display inside the small building for others to enjoy.

Third was another button, but I'm pretty sure this one is more modern. It's still kinda cool.

That 3 cent nickel is an awesome find! I would imagine that most of these are never dug since it VDIs so low. You better burn that ground up as much as you can, you may not find a better spot for a long time. Switch coils and burn it up again!

I'm very impressed. Congratulations on your fantastic finds. Love that 3 cent nickel. That's the first time I've seen one. Now you need to go back MANY more times..........even next year and the year after. HH, Nancy
