Civil war relics

As an ignorant limey, I've very little knowledge on the USA civil war, of course the UK had its own in 1642-1651 and there are quite a few relics to be found in our soil relating to that conflict (depending on where you live). Recently, triggered by listening to a new cd by a band I'd "discovered" called "The Band" I was moved by one of the songs, called "The night they drove old Dixie down" to look up the American Civil War. Well, it makes fascinating reading, a very emotive and interesting period, much like our own civil war period. My question is - Are there many relics to be found by you lot over there from that era? I know 90% of you are beach hunters, but surely there must be some really interesting history waiting to be discovered in some of your areas?

Anyone regularly find any Civil War relics? What kind of things are common finds? - I'm guessing bullets, buckles, daggers, pommels etc? And doesn't the history of something like that prompt some of you to get off the beach and the modern junk for a while?

There are many relic hunters who enjoy going out and finding things that have to do with the Civil War. The American forums are full of finds. Buttons , bullets and belt buckles to name a few. For some hunters there is a very deep passion on Civil War finds. For some others I think the war is still going on. I couldn't even begin to describe the passion involved. And I think you would enjoy the movie the Last Waltz. A recorded movie dealing with The Band's last concert.
