Civil war relic hunting

I primarily use my Explorer for Civil war relic hunting and I was wondering if others that use it for this purpose could share with me what settings they might use when they go detecting and also share any other pointers or suggestions. I have the 8.5in coil and 10in coil to use and I've been doing ok so far, but I think I might be discriminating things I shouldn't be and might not be getting the depth I could out of the machine. Thank You in advance for any help you can offer.

Use as little disc. as possible, if you use iron mask and are comfortable with with the lower settings of it, set it anywhere from -15 to -13. Use manual sens. with a high a setting as possible about 27 or 28 if it is stable at those settings. If you are using ferrous sounds it is possible to run it with wide open iron mask of -16. Using conduct sounds you will need to run a little iron mask. Dig as many broken signals as possible especially low sounds(if you use conduct sounds)as they are low conductors that may be deeper and may be buttons, etc. At least that is the way I run it,HH.

Yes, some targets will hit in from -16 to -13, some will bounce on the screen to diff locations. When relic hunting, I generally dig anything above iron, even the stuff far left or low on the screen, I also dig some iron on purpose just to see what it is. If there is modern trash I may take a diff. strategy, electing not to dig the signals too far below nickels, leaving the iron off and not digging the far left signals.
