Civil War Maps

New member
Hi Folks,

was just wondering if anyone has ever used any of these Civil War Maps available here:

http://www.a2zcds.com/Products/Civil_War_Maps_CD_228.htm

for tracking down hot-spots to search - are these maps any good do you think for detecting purposes?

I live in Australia and am considering having a holiday in the States next year (or the year after) and would love to search for Civil War stuff - so I want to plan well ahead of time to maximise the searching and minimise the travelling.

Do you know of any other old map sources available online?
Your thoughts and comments are welcome and appreciated.
cheers,
rob

Rob: I guess I don't need to tell you that "Civil War Maps" and "Maps from the Civil War" are 2 different things. Most of the maps that are displayed look like they are from the American Memory Collection at the Library of Congress. These are available for free at:

http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/gmdhtml/gmdhome.html

You will probably find most of what you are looking for at this site.

Barnes and Noble have also reprinted copies of the Map folio of the Official Records. This huge book is an excellent addition to any metal detectors library of research tools. This is the best single source of Maps from the Civil War I know of.

Hope this helps,

You just need to find some folks to take you hunting. Otherwise you will pretty much be wasting your time.if I know when you are coming and if you are coming to my area I'd be glad to take you hunting. There are some who nave better places though. Watch the posts and ask some of the people who are posting good finds. I bet since you live so far away most would be happy to take you hunting.

I ordered from this company, my product which was supposed to be shipped next day air never arrived in over a week. ALL their phone numbers are disconected and my Visa company had to close and re-open my account that I used on their site. Real shame, some of their products listed looked really nice.
