I found this belt buckle at an old camp site on a ranch down here in South Texas a year or so ago. This camp site is enclosed by a rock fence, and has one small rock structure with a fireplace. It sits on top of a bluff with a spring and creek at the base of the bluff. At the rear of the camp, approximately 75 feet from the rock fence, there is a dead end ravine that has a rock fence at the entrance that was evidently used for keeping horses confined.
I found many large rimfire brass cartridges, metal buttons, forks & knives, and parts to a saddle at this site. This was a virgin site that I found by accident while riding through the area looking for a stray calf.
I used a Tesoro Bandido II uMax which I bought from Al when he was still selling metal detectors. This was right before he moved to Georgia from Arizona. Al is a real gentleman, one of the finest people that I have met in this hobby.
At the present time, I am detecting an old Boy Scout Camp that is on another ranch. This camp was first used back in the early 1940's and was last used in the late 1990's. This is also a virgin site, no one has ever used a metal detector at this site. There is lots of iron trash at this site, and that is why I posted a question further down this Forum about using a smaller coil...question about how much depth of detection would be lost by using a smaller coil.
In the near future, I will be metal detecting the site where there was an old tavern that burned down around 1899 to 1902. This site is also on a ranch down here in South Texas, and has never been searched with a metal detector.
Folks, I do have some experience with using a metal detector, but I lack the tech knowlege about metal detectors...that is why some of my questions will appear dumb to some of you. I do hope that patience will be shown when a question is asked...and I will be more than willing to share my limited knowledge with others when possible. To those of you who have taken the time to answer my questions, "Thank You!" Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt="">
