I found this button a few months ago in a Pittsburgh park but I didnt know what it was. Today I spotted a picture of it while looking through an old American Digger magazine. Its a Virginia coat button! The back came off of it while cleaning it and the front is dented in a bit. On the bottom it says Semper Tyrannis and has a picture a guy holding a sword and a spear standing over a guy at the bottom.

Very cool! I really enjoy finding out about the history associated with the finds that are made. I doubt that there is anything like that out here in the West. Thanks for the pictures and history!

Sure makes me wonder how a Virginia coat button ended up in a Pittsburgh park. Had you found it in Franklin, Adams or Cumberland counties there would be no questions asked. While we do find bits of history, sometimes this hobby asks more questions than it answers.

Congratulations on a rare find.

Hey PA. Thanks for the pictures and the story behind a very nice find!

There are people that specialize in restoring those types of artifacts. You would be amazed by what they can do with them. That is a nice find, some dedicated relic hunters go years before they get their first confederate button and yours is a state seal on top of that. Nice dig!
