Civil War Bullets & MXT Pro :detecting:

Went with a friend today who has +35 years hunting CW relics in LA. He has so much knowledge. 3 hour hunt in soybean field adjacent to old road (location  ;)) next to major Bayou / waterway where Union Troops moved from north to south in Central LA and encountered skirmishes along the way. Was able to pull these (4) bullets out of the dirt. My buddy got 8 bullets.

From left to right : 2- Sharps & Hankins projectiles- Probably fired by Union Troops. 1 - .44 cal pistol projectile 1- three ring bullet remains.

Used Relic mode w/ 2 Tone ID. MXT worked great. Most of these were at 4". Thanks for looking. CCH

Nice work EJ. I'm envious. What VDI's were the bullets at ?

You can now add "Relic Hunter" to your portfolio EJ. Dandy finds.........

Nice finds congrats the MXT pro is working good for you .

Scott,

The .44 cal colt VDI was in the upper 30s to low 40s. The others were all 52-55 everytime and correctly IDed as BULLET on the display. That heavy lead was easy to pickup and gave off a strong signal. We are gonna go back soon and I plan on making a video of any finds and of the general area.

Thanks EJ. Don't know why I even asked you that...not much chance of running across any of those around here...just habit, I guess, when I see a great find I've never made. Larry's exactly righr you're gonna be challenging NamVetLes for the longest user name soon, Maybe you should try "Cajunallpurposehunter" if you're gonna keep adding to your repertoire. JK Great work...keep it up and don't forget the video camera next time.

Scott,

You hit the nail on the head...... AND thats the reason I bought the MXT. It has allowed me to hunt - primarily C&J, some Relics now and hopefully future Prospecting (which I may do when I come visit you !) ..... ..... with just ONE machine !

How did I miss this? :surprised: Those are great finds EJ. I love seeing those old minie bullets. Don't ya just love that MXT?! It's so versatile. I've had mine for around 9 years and still wouldn't part with it for another. It's a powerhouse for sure. HH and thanks for posting, Nancy

The MXT Pro is a fine detector, to be sure. I'm curious which coil you used?

Thanks,

Monte

Mr Monte,

For this particular hunt, I went with the 950 coil (I call it my general purpose coil) since I wasnt sure of the terrain initially. It was my first relic hunt. Once i got there, it turned out to be harvested soybean fields. Next time we go looking, I'm gonna try the 6x10dd because of its shape (will allow me to get closer to and move along those low cut soybean stalks which still reamin standing and are kinda bothersome). Lesson Learned for me. We'll see what happens and I'll bring my video camera along also. Thanks for looking.
