Cibola

I bought this Cibola new and used it twice. I started to have problems with it. I sent it back to Tesoro. They said I had a bad coil. They replaced the coil and calabrated it. I got it back today, it's still not right. Either it's the machine or its me. I have six other machines, and have been detecting for 25 yrs. My question is..When you push the pin-point is the threshold suppose to be smooth or wavery, like a motor boat? I tried lowering the sensetivity and it does it all the way down to one. I changed frequency,I've tried the threshold at a barley audible hum. It may suppose to do this, but it seems to false alot in the disc mode too. Just wasn't sure if yall's threshold is smooth or motor boatin all the time. Thanks:shrug:

Sound like electrical interference. Find a field away from power lines and try it. Also I know someone who had this problem from a cell phone on his belt.

For sure. I had the same problem with my Cibola at a location that had an underground, high voltage power cable.

If it still works good try an air test.
If it is good, you might have a souped up version like the Tejon.

well what i have found is if you keep it at the same levell when swinging it works best if you raise it the pitch will change or if the button is half down sometimes i relax my preshure on the pinpont button and it goes bonkers keep the button down and swing level as you can ir the ground is uneven you may get the wavy sound to but i find it pinponts so well i dont use the all metal pinpont much and when the sinse is maxed and the threshold i do get pops and blips for short times but when i hit a good object the signal is strong and repeatable hope that helps my m-6 did the same thing inpinpoint mode real wavy had to keep it leveall
My question is..When you push the pin-point is the threshold suppose to be smooth or wavery, like a motor boat?
Unless you have some nearby electrical interference, it should be relatively smooth if you're holding the coil still. But are you referring to that audio or the sound you get when sweeping the coil over the ground in the all metal Pinpoint mode?
I tried lowering the sensetivity and it does it all the way down to one. I changed frequency,I've tried the threshold at a barley audible hum.
The Sensitivity would have less to do with the problem, and shifting the frequency can sometimes be enough to help, however .... you said you tried lowering the Sensitivity and changing frequency with a barely audible hum. If you have a "hum" then is it humming or is it wavy or motor-boating?
It may suppose to do this, but it seems to false alot in the disc mode too. Just wasn't sure if yall's threshold is smooth or motor boatin all the time. Thanks:shrug:
Now, here a flag is raised. :surrender: It's an alert flag because if your are referring to a wavy audio Threshold setting when the coil is held still in the All Metal Pinpoint mode, that is usually outside interference. If you're referring to audio fluctuations in the All Metal Pinpoint mode when the coil is moving over the ground, that suggests some very uneven ground, or a ground balance that is set either way positive or way negative for that particular ground.

Couple that with "falsing" in the Disc. mode during operation, it would suggest that the GB trimmer is set a little too negative for that mode. I would suggest checking the GB setting to see if that might be a cause, and well as trying it at a few different locations to make sure it isn't an outside interference source issue.

To check the GB setting on your Cibola, locate a site with exposed dirt that's typical for your area. I'd suggest trying this at three or four different locations.

Set the Sensitivity as high as possible and still be stable, and set the Discriminate level at the minimum setting.

Turn the detector on and hold the coil about 6" to 8", no more than that, above the ground.

Adjust for a slight Threshold hum in the All Metal Pinpoint mode.

Holding in the Pinpoint button, lower the coil towards the ground and listen for an audio change. Lower it in about a half-second, so that if you're bobbing the coil it takes about one second to lower it and raise it back to that 6"-8" height. If the audio Threshold increases as the coil approaches the ground, then the GB is set a bit positive. If the Threshold audio decreases or nulls out (goes silent) as the coil approaches the ground, then the GB setting is too negative.

Release the Pinpoint button and hold he coil at that 6"-8" height. With the Disc. set at minimum, quickly bob the coil toward-and-away from the ground and listen for any audio response. It should remain silent on the down-stroke and uplift if you have a good, functional GB setting.

If you get an audio 'beep' on the uplift (falsing), the the GB trimmer is set too negative and you need to adjust it for good performance. If you don't then you're going to have a lot of falsing and poor performance in many applications.

Thanks for all of the help from ya'll good fellows. I think I've found my problem. It's the cell phone I'm carrying. My ground balance seems to be good, like Monte told me to check. I'm going to try it at a couple more new places. I'm pretty sure it's my cell phone. Thanks a million.

I've got to give Monte alot of credit. You know your Tesoros!!!

I don't have any problem with my cell phone unless I receive an incoming call. But when I do, it's definitely a problem!
