cibola with 12 x 10 d.d BEACH HUNTER

comcat

New member
well thats what i call it,,,this machine EXELS on salt wet and in the water,,,doesnt false if the disc on iron, and sens, to 7 or 8,,,deep and surefire everytime,,,seems as deep as my old sov.gt,,,maybe deeper,,as i have found small targets deeper with this machine,,,,but lightning fast recovery,,,the gt is crap at that,(,,pass over iron and the gt wont see the target for nulling,,,) anyway be careful in the water and this machine will not let you down,,,i was astounded on how good it is,,,,must be something to do with the extended disc. E D 180 it has<<<,,,,c:mon Tesoro,,put this in a waterproof box???? rgds ,,,comcat:ukflag:

Hey comcat the sov does see targets when in a null, your wrong there. the null is simply the loss of the threshold when the detector goes over a target it has disced out. It doesnt mean the detector isnt detecting and responding anymore.

Where are you hunting at that you can run your cibola in salt areas with disc so low? Ive got a Vaquero and Tejon, both require the disc up near a nickel to hunt the wet sand here in NJ and I need to keep the coil off the sand.

the 12X10 is a great coil isnt it, been keeping my eyes open for a used one with a longer cable for awhile now, might just have to order a new one.

Neil, the difference in comcat's post in relation to your statement about the Vaq and the Tejon may well be due to the DD coil design. It may be more forgiving in the set salt than the concentric.

Bill they both work about the same here in the wet sand. Ive tried both and it doesnt make a difference. Could be where he is located as I stated I can only speak about the beaches I hunt on.

It would be great if it was as simple as switching coils. If I could get either of my Tesoros to get as deep as a Sov why the heck would I want to hunt with a heavier/slower detector? Sorry, that post just dont work for my area. Good for him though, it sure would be nice to have the light weight and depth and sensitivty to small gold all in one machine:cheers:

Neil

I hear you on the heavier business. My most capable detector is an MXT which is heavy and a bit awkward, but you'll find me hunting with one of my Tesoros most of the time as they are lighter, more fun to swing.and generally enough detector for the parks, playgrounds etc. that I often hunt.

Bill I wish all detectors were as light to swing as Tesoros. Absolutely the best in that sense. They are excellent hunters also, especially around iron.
Since I mostly beach hunt depth is very important. Targets get down deep in both the dry and wet sand very quickly. I love the Tesoro in the dry sand, it gets down deep enough and I feel confident that if I run my coil over a gold necklace or similiar it will let me know:thumbup:

could this be chucky re-interneted? i love wide scans or DD coils on beaches and wet mineralized sand with tesoros with ground balanced only, however , with bigger coils--very unlikely. i prefer the sov or explorer or my excal in salt water. sam in ms

yes, i agree with you all, only the 12 x 10 d.d. coil and the ,,ED 180 extended disc.scale combination is i believe the reason for the excellent perfomance,,,, this machine excels,,,the concentrics do sound off more,,but your right it also depends on the beach or the terrain in your neck of the woods,,,,having said that the machine has worked the same way on a couple of areas ive been on and it dont sound off a lot in the water either,, i mean ,,im not actually wading but im sure if your carefull it will work for you,,,or if you manage to waterproof it somehow,,,,i set it for around 7 sens. and disc. just on iron,,,,,it works just fine,,,,my g.t. was a class performer on the beach, but again if you put a coin down a few inches away from an iron nail you wont hear the coin,,,it normally had to be 2 feet after the nail for the machine to register the coin,,,that was my experience with my g.t.,,why dont you try it???? see how yours works,,you know you dont see whats in the ground,,,you could miss a whole lotta coins in nail infested environments,,,,i have total confidence in my trident and the dd coil,,,,best rgds ,,,comcat:ukflag:

Sounds like you swinging your gt to fast if you couldnt hit a coin inside a 2ft distance from a nail. the threshold disappearing doesnt let you see whats in the ground but does tell you youve gone over a disced out target and that masking could be happening so you should slow down even further in your sweeps. unfortuneately with a silent search machine you never know, theres nothing to alert you. the sovs iron mask is set pretty high, one of the reasons I think the explorer/etrac do so well is theres are adjustable, not so on the sov.
sounds like youve found what works best for you, best of luck with it comcat.
I will be calling my dealer today to order the 12X10 with the longer cable.

Thanks Comcat, i had to rethink, and you made a great point. i have 6 tesoros , but no Cibola. i should not have made any comment.i do have a Vaquero, which is the same, but with Ground Adjust. i love my euro sabre, which was made for your area in mind. You threw me off about the TRIDENT. my vag is great on salt water beaches here in mississippi, but in the foot deep water, or deeper, i wont comment. Why did they change name from CIBOLA to TRIDENT in your area ? SORRY I DISMISSED YOUR INSIGHTS SO FAST. i will have to try with my larger widescan, and see what happens here in my area. THANKS for being a member of this forum.sam in ms

yeah neil,,the 12 x 10 hates minerals,,and great for the beach,,you know it can still find the same small targets as the stock coil,,,but it goes around 20 - 25 % deaper,,thats probably the reason for your disc. to be higher,as the coil is a concentric and not as good at ignoring the salt conductance<<<rgds ,,,comcat:ukflag:

hiya larzam,,good to hear from you,,was down around mississippi about 18 years ago,,just LOVE the states ,and you guys have always put out a warm welcome ,,you just gotta go back,,the reason they call the cibola a trident 1 over here was something to do with the importer,,i think the name lezer is crap,,but i think the tweeking of the machine is a little different for our shores?? but couldnt confirm it,,,thats the story though,,the other thing is they are black stems and not grey, and the box decals are grey instead of green??? i personally like the tesoro colours,,,catch you on the heap,,,rgds ,,comcat,,,,,,,,P>S> i just bought a DETECTOR PRO WADER,,,,it broke down in 30 minutes,,,,fault with the control box cableing???? really poor q.c.,,,,dont be fooled,,stick to a proper name in this business,,,,C..:ukflag:

I have a few Detectorpros[5] it will never be more than the amount of TESOROS or MINELABS. i bought a DIVER on ebay a year or so ago real cheap because the cable was cut,it is now my fav detectorpro.mostly because i can not sell it because i fixed it.found out that there are wires within wires. hope your wire short is outside the headphones, makes it easier.the headphones are designed to fold a certain way[ i am sure you know], any other way puts to much stress on the wires. i assume you bought your wader used, but like new?sam in ms
