Cibola Vs. X-terra 50

I know that this particular forum has some knowledgeable users that use or have used different manufactures and machines. I presently own a Minelab X-terra 50 and have had some good results. It is very user friendly and has good depth. The problem is I have caught the Tesoro bug, and after reading many post and asking a lot of questions, have decided on the Cibola. My question to some of you who have used both of these machines is what will I gain with the Cibola over the X-50? I have heard that the Cibola has great depth. Can anyone compare these two detectors who have used or hunted around both?

but have used the x-50. And I have used several other Tesoros. My two questions for you would be, do you want to give up your GB control and/or TID? I doubt that either one has much of a depth advantage. If I were going to give up my x-50, it would probably be for a Vaquero, not a Cibola.(Just because I need the manual GB where I live).

apples to oranges. One is a TID with manual ground balance, the other is a "Beep & Dig" with fixed ground balance. Which one is deeper in your soil? Unless you can find someone that uses both in your area there really is no one to answer your question.

I'd agree with the posts above.

Everyone is welcome to join the Tesoro camp...:clapping:

Silver uMax is most popular and a pleasure to use.
Compadre would be good for downright grab n' go ease of use.
Tejon if you wish to fuss with the most horsepower we got.
Vaquero if you want to competition hunt and have GB capability.
LST if you would like to nugget hunt.

Is it a bad thing not to finish the list?

I never tried the X-Terra 50.
Cibola is preset GB.
Vaquero with manual GB, and conditions, can have an advantage.
Cibola can do a swell job to - conditions permitting.

Nothing against the cibola but a manual GB on any detector makes it a more versitile machine for a number of situations. While the cibola may go deep you will loose depth in highly mineralized soil compared to the XT-50. Why give up the TID also?
Cheers!

Fixed ground balance is only optimal in the most benign environments. You really need to have at least an adjustable ground balance and going to a beep and dig after all the bells and whistles will feel like you're missing something. I started with a Cibola and while they're great machines, I now use an Eldorado (older brother of the Vaquero) and a Whites MXT. One of my hunting buddies uses an Xterra -70 and its a hot machine. IMHO, the Cibola was good to learn on, but it will start to come up short real quick if you hunt in a lot of trash, or mineralized ground. If you want the beep and dig equivalent in the Tesoro line, to your Xterra, get a Tejon and eventually get a 5.75 coil for it.

Hi Prospector
I own a X Terra 50, this detector has all the bells/whistles, BUT bought a Vaquero the Vaq in short is the Cibola with a Manuel GB.
You have to look at the Term ID, deeper targets on the X Terra can be Silver or Iron take your Pick, i feel you just cant rely on TID,in trashy/ iron infested areas the Vaq will leave the X Terra for dead, even bought a small coil fot the 50.
I feel the Vaq is the best i can get for now,on the other hand if you are looking for Gold, minelab may be your best option.
The Vaq is simple, get a good signal/ you can Disc it out, ( Turn the Disc dial see when you loose the signal, its not perfect in the Disc Range on Tab you can have a crossover/ pull tab/gold ring etc.
You get used to how strong a signal is/ ie how deep it is,a faint whisper dig it up a bit check the signal. The Vaq is sound based only no bells/whistles, if you miss a target with the Vaq its your fault not the Tid/Sounds/ Depth indicator etc,
Hope this helps, the guys on the Forum will help if your not sure,
Holey Dollar.

I've seen that.

A lot of Minlab people don't like that review.

I think it is very informative.

X-terra 50 = more bark than bite.:veryangry:
