Cibola vs Silver Saber Umax

Thanks for all of those observations. You have definitely studied your machines in the field. Now I have an idea what to expect from the Cib. Digging is impossible in Va, right now. Worst drought we've ever seen. Can'y wait for some good rain.

Maybe you did! I listened to the local forecast last night, and was dismayed again. Don't know what happened, but a co-worker this morning said that we were going to get a couple inches today. I almost called him a liar. We're working on the second inch now. ALMOST DIGGABLE!!!!

perhaps the preset GB of the Cibola favors you ground a bit better.

If you can only use max boost on the SS and 7" coil in mild ground maybe a quick visit to Prescott is in order? How do they compare depthwise with both set at low iron disc settings? The Cibola gets its best depth when set to just eliminate nails, especially so in tougher ground conditions.

It has been noted by many that the Cibola's preset GB works much better in varying ground conditions than some of the other preset GB machines, especially ones that operate above 10Khz. I wonder what is up with that?
The Cibola has a ED180 discriminator and the Silver has a ED120 discriminator. The ED 180 will read lower on the scale. By that I mean that it doesn't reject iron as much as the ED 120. As I understand it the ability to accept iron enables it to be more stable in iron rich ground.
It's more correct to say that the Cibola will ACCEPT more iron than the Silver

I like them both. The Vaquero does have the pushbutton mode change to make it quick to size & shape and pinpoint if you're hunting in the Disc. mode. But the Eldorado has a mode-select toggle that allows you to select your search mode, All Metal or Discriminate, and then toggle to the other to check a signal.

They are both advertised as having ED-180 discrimination, and I know the Eldorado does, but will have to double check a Vaquero. My friend's Eldorado worked better than a Dealer's Cibola I compared to last week because the Disc. mode did adjust lower with the Eldorado. It was a nasty mineralization test, and the Eldorado did well.

They are quite close in performance, but since the Vaquero is just a little quieter in typical iron trash, I'd give it the nod for hunting iron infested sites. Overall depth? I'd have to compare them side-by-side again because the last Eldorado I had did quite well, in the ground I was hunting in.

notice that both set-ups will provide you with a little better coverage per sweep, and the Vaquero w/DD coil might have a little advantage in that respect.

For depth of detection, I'd like to see the performance, side-by-side, but I'd not be ashamed to put my money on the Eldorado w/concentric coil. :)

Both are good choices for covering more ground, and they are certainly a way to go for "lock hunting" old RR Switch Sites, but the gains in depth over the stock 8x9 are not going to be tremendous on common coin-sized targets. A little, in target-free applications, but nothing earth shattering.

I've used the Eldorado & Euro Sabre w/10x12 and they can do 'OK', if searching for larger targets, but I'm not a fan of bigger coils. I haven't used a Vaquero much at all with the 10x12 DD coil, however, from experience, I am sure it's a nice coil fo certain applications.
