Cibola, uMax, & Gold

Smudge

New member
I know they both hit on coins well.

In theory, the Cibola at just under 15 kHz, should hit on small, finer gold than the 10 kHz Silver uMax.

Has anyone done any sort of test to see if the Cibola does better on gold than the uMax will? Or is the difference too small to notice?

They get ladies gold rings equally well. Any gold smaller than that isn't worth considering, but you will find them if you dig all signals. Heavier gold is better.

In the less trashy areas, you CAN go to a/m mode with the Silver umax and get the small gold rings. I even picked up a small earring this way. But neither machine will beat the Compadre for small gold.

The compadre is supposedly a lesser system.. IE cheaper etc.. Why would it be a better detector then the umax and cibola?

Is the compadre seriously better for finding gold rings etc? And if so does this hurt its coin hunting performance compared to the umax and cibola?

I am thinking of buying one of them come the first..

the compadre is a sleeper and actually has the best disc of all the machines and will find coins up to 5 to 6" depth and is very sensitive on jewelry, the perfect tot lot machine!

The Compadre runs at 12 kHz, a little higher than the uMax's 10 kHz. The higher the kHz, the more sensitive it is to finer gold. I own a Compadre and let me assure you the higher kHz does nothing to hurt it's coin finding capabilites. It is a coin hog!

I have found some jewelry, but not gold (yet) and I'm sure there was two reasons for that: 1) I may have been running my discrimination too high and 2) I simply haven't swung my coil over any.

I use the Compadre mostly in tot lots and trashy areas. I just got the uMax to primarily be used in more open areas like sports fields where a larger 8" coil allows you to cover more ground (the Compadre has a 5.75" coil).

My Compadre is my favorite detector because its the most fun and it discriminates beautifully. Can't wait to see how this new Silver uMax does in the field.

It's NOT a depth demon, BUT it is an entirely different circuitry than other Tesoroes-it doesn't have the high-gain, low noise circuitry and it has a true ED-180 disc. Some of the other ED-180 still have trouble with small iron filings, etc. The most obvious is when it comes to fine gold chains-and that's where it shines. I found a 14k small gold chain a couple of weeks ago WHILE discriminating hairpins, paper clips, small nails. I took it home and placed my Silver umax in a/m mode and got NOTHING! I had to RUB it on the coil to even get a blip. It's not the frequency of operation,, the small coil, or anything else but it's the circuitry. It's a different animal.

well this sounds like what i am after.. I am not looking for great depth.. Just something that is light and will pick up the small gold and clad..
I do not particularly care to be digging more then 6in in the local parks around here. I looked at the ace 250 ace 350 and the fisher F2 and while i am sure they are great detectors
It would seem the are not as good for the small gold.

Cheers
Dave

you will like that compadre my friend, my father inlaw has one and this thing finds the rings and the disc works super for just getting rid of the iron and super light weight!

The comments are real interesting.

I happened to call the company today and was
also told that the Compadre is great for rings - jewelry.
Just does not get as much depth as the Cibola.
