Cibola / Silver uMax

Smudge

How do these two compare to each other?

I know the Cibola sports some newer technology and a higher operating frequency.

But has anyone noticed superior performance in the Cibola over the Silver uMax?

It all comes down to options, and you get what you pay for. The Cibola has more features than the Silver uMax and has newer circuitry too. IMO, the Cibola is a better detector performance-wise but then it's much more expensive so you'd expect that, no?

LOVE my Cibola. It's an excellent piece of kit.

Wish we could get a heavy user's opinions on this. In the review sites some like the Silver better. Recently it was discovered that changing the frequencies would alter the g/b either positive or negative according to which frequency was chosen. The idea was that more depth could be had by selecting the right frequency.

The Cibola will have a large increase in depth. The Cibola's technology is far superior to the Silver. The silver will find a quarter at best 8.5" to 9". The Cibola at best should get it at 10.5" to 11".

I guess it don't get more experienced than that!

Well, thats good to hear because I just pulled the trigger on the Cibola.

I have gone through a lot of detectors over the past couple of years trying to find the one that does everything and had to finally realize it doesn't exist.

I even strayed away from Tesoro a couple of times. Boy, was that a mistake.

So I'm down to the Cibola for competition and open field hunting and my trusty Compadre for tot lots, narrow areas, and jewelry hunting.

I think I'm done buying detectors for awhile. I'm just going to enjoy what I've got.

In my very mild Florida soil, I think I'm pretty well set.

Congrats on the Cibola, Smudge - you'll love it.
