Cibola question?

recived a new cibola and was wondering if anyone has good hits on a older pull tabs when the dis. is way past the tab notch. i also have a goldenUmax and this doesent happen? when i recovered the pull tab and buried it again i could hear it was a pull tab. wouldnt be able to pick up brass items past the pull tab notch? im new to the cibola and have to give this awsome detector more time in the field, thank you for any tips! -coindgr-

I'm tossing in a guess so here goes.
Could it be that depending on the way the tab is positioned in the ground the detector is hitting on the "beavertail" part of the tab. This part is flat and somewhat round and therefore makes the detector think the item is higher up in the "coins" area.
When you lay the tab on the ground, the detector is hitting the larger "ring" part which falls more into the "tabs" area of discrim.

Just a thought.

Hi Coindgr,

The disc is different on the Cibola. I like the way it works.
It will crackel on things it's tying to disc out. That let's me
know right where it is.

There is a wide range of responses you can get from pull tabs.
There are countless types of pull tabs.

Pull tabs will range from a low conductor to a penny response.
It is just something we have to learn to deal with.

The Cibola is very capable in the area of pull tabs once you
get used to it.

Remember you are comparing it to another great detector.
They both have their strengths.

Good luck,

Thank you tabdog, i got out after work today and its all coming together i found a 1950d wheat cent next to a nail and under lots of small rocks in the corn field, i know i have been over this patch with the golden, the cibola found it! it will take me some getting used to but i belive this detector is a hit! Thanks again, coindgr

Thank you wayne, im starting to figure the pull tab sound out. Thank you, coindgr

When I used the Cibola I noticed that the disc circuit on it is similar to a couple other single tone machines I have used in the past. Items like the pulltabs and similar that are say 5 to 7" down in the ground disc out at higher settings than when shallow or air tested. Now when the same target is just a bit deeper it will disc out again. Just one of them things.

keep in mind that perhaps the Golden didn't miss it. It may be that the Golden never passed over the exact spot or your discrimination settings may have "masked" the wheat cent.
