Cibola Question

Hi folks, i received a nice used Cibola today and have a question. Should the Cibola "chirp" when the sensitivity is maxed out. Most of the

Mine depends on the soil. Some places it will run maxed and not peep until it hits a target. Other places it gets chirpy and I'll set it around 10. On the wet sand, salt water beach where the ground balance wasn't even close, I was set at about 7 to 8 on sensitivity and it would talk some when set there.

Enjoy your Cibola. They are a fun detector to hunt with.
Cheers,
tvr

Thanks for the quick reply tvr much appreciated. I should of made myself clearer, what I meant is my Cibola doesn't chirp with the sens. maxed out when I am holding it in the air with the coil away from the ground.

Howdy Steve

I'd bet it would chirp if you're around overhead power lines, all of my detectors goes nutz around power lines with full sens.and the coil in the air.

Beam me up Scotty. LOL

I am not holding the detector like a gun with the coil up in the air , I meant with the coil about knee level parallel to the ground with sens. maxed. I sent you a pm Randy. Thanks. Steve.

Steve,

I just went outside with my cibola and with the coil at knee high and sense set to max, it was mouse quite.

So it won't have an iron tone? That's strange with the Compadre. I had a Silver Sabre umax and the dang thing kept messing up and the dealer sent it in 4 times-they said nothing was wrong with it. Finally, he traded it for the Silver umax, a tote bag, a pair of headphones, and even wanted to give me $25 cash-just a great guy. I refused the cash and told him I was happy. Last I heard they completely changed the electronics out and the dealer's dad was using it. To this day it kinda sticks in my craw-but hey-they have great detectors. Mine does have emi inside the house and around some high lines. I do know that you can adjust the trimmer inside to lessen or increase the sensitivity. But I'm through working on the insides since I added a tab check to my Silver.

My C was quiet as a mouse, never knew if it was working or not. It's possible someone tried adjusting the ground balance
and didn't get it set right.

Correct if I am wrong Sven but I thought that the ground balance setting would have nothing to do with whether or not the Cibola "chirped" at max sens. holding coil knee level above ground.

Mine does not chirp at full sensitivity unless I increase the threshold to about 1 o'clock. At just audible threshold it's dead quiet.

Your right I was thinking of something else at the time, disregard my post. That's what happens when you don't get enough sleep......good thing I didn't go out detecting today,
who knows what I might dug up.........I have been hearing a chirp every 15 seconds lately. Crazy customers who call in at the call center who are too lazy to change their smoke detectors batteries chirp thru out the entire phone call. Did ask one customer about it, she said "ooooh, it's been like that for months, I just tuned it out..."

Steve you might have the detector to keep this time..... I heard those Cibola's are nice units...... I know that's the only one I haven't tried though, I had the Vaquero and I figured it was about the same as the cibola except for the ground balance. Did you get the high or low tone? Are you packing it up for the GB change? or decide not to?

Hi Jay, I had a Cibola along time ago and don't really remember much about it, my memory is poor. The one I just got is high tone, I do remember the one I used to have was low tone it sounded like a duck as some say, I actually liked the "duck" sound. 90% of the reason for getting the Cibola was to do the ground balance mod. I have tinkered with electronics for years and really enjoy it, when I get the extra $$$ and time I will get the materials and do the mod. it is something I have thought of doing for along time. Steve.

SkiWhiz, I have friends(man and wife) that got a Cibola last Spring and when I tried to help them in tuning it I found I had the same situation you speak of.Cranked the Sens all the way and nothing happened.I thought I had screwed it up twisting knobs and trying for some kind of response. Not at all like my Tejon,or other 3 Tesoros. Another thing I discovered is that I could not tune it to make even a peep on a cut nail. I remember reading somewhere on a forum ,( probably this forum, ) a discussion about just that, and the way the Cibola AM is set up. I think also it has to do with 180-120. I didn't think to go refresh myself on all of those factors, but I am sure you will likely know what all that means. A "search " on this forum would probably turn up more of what would be a better explanation than what I am offering here. . Anyhow, not being able to find cut nails will certainly be a problem for some relic folks wanting to find the nearest nail bed, but for some folks it will be no problem. Seems that is one thing the Cibola and the X2 have in common. I will certainly be on the lookout for any suggestions , if any , from those who can help set the Cibola up for the small AM stuff but that ain't likely the way it is geared. My friends are a bit puzzled at the differences in the T and the C and I feel more than a little responsible for suggesting the Cibola to them as they are more Archaeoligist minded and need to be able to find "All Metal", not just the big stuff. Shame on me for not doing my homework.HH, Charlie
