Cibola pinpoint ??

I've been using my Cibola for over a year,it's a great machine.I usually pinpoint by X-ing the target and dig.I was in my test garden with various coins at different depths from 2-8" and decided to really try out the pinpoint without using my usual X method. With the threshold at 2 o-clock with a slight steady hum, sensitivity on max and disc a tad past iron,I noticed on my shallow targets of 2-4" with the pinpoint pressed and passed over the target the threshold hum would change to a higher pitch at the center of the coil as I would expect it to do,now on my deeper 5-8" targets with no change in initial settings I would get a good response signal "beep" but very little if no change in the threshold hum with the pinpoint pressed making it difficult to pinpoint deeper targets using my pinpoint button,is this normal on the Cibola detectors? I don't use the pinpoint button. X-ing a target, the response / recovery is crisp and clear enough to determine where the target is.
When targets are shallow - try raising the coil and re-sweep again from at least 2 positions (x-ing) and see what you get.
For trashy areas, I usually use the 5.75 coil.

Don't know how consistent the threshold position is detector to detector, but my Cibola has a very pronounced threshold tone at 2 o'clock. It has a barely perceivable threshold tone at about 12 o'clock and gives me much better response to deep targets using the pinpoint with threshold set barely perceivable than if set higher. With threshold set barely audible, I've found pin point to be about as deep as discriminate mode with the Cibola. You can get more depth in discriminate mode by running the threshold higher (super tuning). You lose some ability to discriminate out larger pieces of iron as well as losing the small target response you need to pinpoint deeper.

Personally, I like to use the threshold to give me ideas as to how deep the target is and to more accurately size it than I can by X-ing. So I set the threshold for barely audible. It isn't what I'd call steady at barely audible, but the response over a deeper target is noticeable.

Try different settings as see how it works. May even try taking it just below audible to see how it responds to the deep targets you have planted. If you still aren't finding them with the barely audible or just below audible threshold, may want to call the factory and send it in for a check up.

Tvr,I ran a few test with different threshold settings and it acted the same on the pinpoint so I packaged it up to send in for a check up.A few months ago while out detecting I got a loud dubbing like a drum beat in my headphones and the detector went silent,I turned it off and back on and got a slight beep,I put in a new battery and it only made one beep and again went silent,after 5 or 10 times switching it on and off it started working again,I put the old battery back in and got 5 beeps on the battery test and proceded detecting,since then it seems as if it is not performing as it did new,I guess since that episode I'm not comfortable with it especially with some upcoming hunts.I'm not sure how long it will take them to check it but it will be in the mail this morning.Thanks,Charles

They will make it right. Hope you described the odd things you experienced. May help them make sure they get every possibility checked out.

I typed up in detail what happened,not sure what caused the strange dubbing and power loss,my only conclusion was underground high voltage wires??
