Cibola or Compadre for the Beach?

kregh

New member
Going to be on the island of ohau - which detector would be best for beach hunting? I have tons of experience with both detectors on land - but nothing for the beach.

The only advantage I can think of is the Compadre's light weight.

TIA!

Larger coils on the Cibola will go a little deeper and cover more ground.
I hunt with both a 7" coil Compadre and a Vaq and the weight difference is negligible to me.
I can swing them both all day, and most of the day with the 10X12 DD coil mounted on the Vaq.

Neither will be great in wet sand. However, in dry sand they'll do well. Both are preset GB. The Cibola is a great detector - it's the Vaquero less the gb adjustment. Everything being equal, I'd go for the Ciobola. However, nothing is equal because the Compadre can be had for $100. Do you want the detector with a choice of coils or get the compadre single coil but save $150 - $200? I'd almost suggest getting the Compadre and use the savings to put towards the Vaquero or Outlaw. Now that's just me. There are people who use the Compadre as their go-to detector and use nothing else. That all said, you are still back at where you started. You really can't go wrong either way.

Both are great units. The vaquero will handle some wet salt sand conditions with it being ground ballanced and sens turn way down. You will lose some depth but it'll work if you plan on hunting the low tide area;s As far as micro jewelry hunting in the dry sand.> Towel lines and drop lines which usually run about 8 feet bellow the towel line. I'd run the compadre with the 8 inch loop. Its killer good on small jewelry . I use mine all the time for water hunting fresh water lakes and hunting the dry sand area's. . I love it.
