Cibola in trash/depth

birdman

Member
I should have a cibola in about two weeks. How good are they in trash and is the depth as good as they say in the field test? I am gonna get it regardless but just wondering about the basics. Thanks and HHS

Glad to read that you're getting the Cibola, birdman. You may pick up some constructive comments here but beware, well, just beware. Nuff said.

If you want to get the real facts on the Tesoros, contact people like gary of the U.K. He's a respected seller and actual user of many top brands and he'll tell you the truth. He's an honest seller who isn't just trying to push the expensive models for better profits. He's a great guy all the way.

Here's his website:
http://www.garysdetecting.co.uk/tesoro.htm

Also, other major seller/testers will share with you "off the record" but you have to email or call them to get this info.

The information I got "off the record" is what prompted me to buy the DeLeon. The Cibola, Cortes, etc., are also supreme machines. Your Fisher is a great machine but I think you'll like Tesoro's smoothness much better.

Well, I'm going to be busy cleaning a bunch of awesome relics. I've been putting this off too long and the wife is starting to complain about all that rusty "junk."

Hi Birdman and you will not regret getting the Cibola. I sold a Cibola to a lady customer and she loves it and her husband is amazed at how many coins she finds. Women make excellent detectorists anyway but she has put her Cibola through a real workout and it is serving her well. I don't mind saying that I have found more stuff with a Tesoro compared to any other brand. Some people will say that Tesoro is falling behind but I still find more with them. I think Fisher is next in line. If I had to carry a single brand it would be Tesoro hands down ! So get ready to have a lot of fun and an enjoyable experience using the Cibola. CU later Birdman and God Bless.

Many Tesoro and Cibola users in this and other forums have said that in trashy areas they have purchased the 5.75 inch coil which is supposed to provide better trash separation with minimal loss in depth.

The downside of course is a lot less area coverage in area with the smaller coil.

If you detect in a lot of trashy areas with potntial to yieild good targets, the 5.75 inch coil might be worth looking at.

If a person does buy the 5.75 coil, they might be wise to purchase the lower rod assmbly for a few dollars more if they switch between coils, in order to save time.

I have a friend who has been a relic hunter in southeast Ga. for 40 years. He started with the early Nautilus machines, but later switched to Tesoro because of their ability to work in iron trash. To make a long story short he is very excited with the Cibola and has confided to me that he has gone back to many hammered sites and found deep buttons in heavy trash with this detector. He actually prefers the Cibola over the Tejon for relic hunting old house sites.

I'd like to add this to what I've already posted--there are some who say the Tesoro brand is obsolete, over-priced, etc. But one thing I noticed is how many great finds today are being made with Tesoros.

Last year my primary machine was a Minelab Sovereign (Excalibur). I did okay with it but was having lots of trouble with false signals in trash areas and I wasn't pleased with the depth. At that time all I could find were positive comments about the Tesoro brand so I asked some specific questions and finally bought the DeLeon.

There's a night and day difference between the Sovereign and Tesoro. Tesoro is not only much deeper it's as smooth as silk once you learn it. It's a killer for old silver and copper/brass relics.

From what I'm hearing, the Cibola is just as deep (or nearly so) and is one super machine. Contrary to what you read on here and other forums, the lack of adjustable ground balance is no problem with todays set GB machines. In fact, some people have purchased the adjustables and then went back to the set GB machines.

The Cibola with the 8x9 search head will air test a five cent coin
at 9.1/4 inches and with the 5.75 search head it will air test the same coin at 8.1/2 inches.
i also found that the one dime coin with both search heads will air test at 7 inches and the quarter and one cent coins with the 8x9 will air test at 8.1/2 inches
with the 5.75 the quarter and one cent coin will air test at 8 inches
an air test is not an in ground test but in truth the Cibola is as good as any of the Tesoro detectors.
all the best and happy hunting to you from Les in the uk

Get over it! If all you want is butt kissing, go somewhere else. Any critisism I've seen here is constructive, not just ripping on this manufacturer as you alledge. I have one brand that I use...a Tesoro. Why? because it works for me. Would you used the same model? probably not, but thats ok with me. I dont need someone stroking my ego, telling me my detector is really great all the time. How about just posting sometime without telling everyone what kind of haters post here, and how we are always so negative, etc!!!

Your happy smiley Tesoro user,

J.

if that numbers is all you get in your air tests. Or you are testing inside a house and metal objects or electrical interference have lowered your numbers.
I get 14" on a nickel in disc mode (disc set to iron)and sensitivity at max. outside my house with the 5.75 coil. Even better in All Metal mode. OK im talking Vaquero here but the Cibola should air test as good.

HH,
Andy

Thanks for all the great info. Looks like I should have a lot of great knowledge to pull from!:beers: I am looking forward to becoming a Tesoro user! :usaf::detecting:

I have found no ground that the Cibola wouldn't hunt smoothly in. Everywhere I've gone, when I push the pinpoint and then lower the coil to the ground, the tone doesn't change. Ground balanced perfectly every time. To maximize the depth, always hunt with the sensitivity as high as you can run it. This does make a big difference.
