Cibola in ground depth test (surprising results) !

This morning I took my Cibola and my $800 target ID detector in the woods behind the house for some comparision testing. The soil here is mild, light mineralization.

I buried a Civil War Enfield bullet 12" deep. The $800 machine would not hit this target at full sensitivity with no discrimination.

The Cibola set at full sensitivity, disc on iron and supertuned (threshold at the 1:00 o'clock position), gave a clear repeatable signal on this deep bullet.

I did discover that a slower than normal sweep speed was nessesary to obtain a clear signal.

It is surprising to me that the Cibola with pre-set GB would hit a freshly buried lead target at this depth.

well speaking of bulletts i had a vaquero that just loved bulletts and both machines being 14khz to me the cibola and vaq is the best bullett machine there is and the depth of mine was 10" at an old home site, figuire what the khz on the $800.00 machine is and try some coins at deep levels and i bet you the lower freq will get the coin easier, some people might think i'm blowin smoke but i honestly really think that, thats why in the world of tesoro i prefer 10 khz for finding coin than i do higher freqs machines

Nice information :detecting:
:tesoro: machines are very simple and sensitive.
Visual id is not necessary for me - usually LCD screen give us a fake ID on deep targets.

Keep in mind, that as you get into the super tuning range, the ability to cleanly discriminate out iron with these detectors decreases too. In open areas, not an issue, but in trash it can be a very big issue and why now I seldom run my Cibola super tuned.

Thanks tvr, in a real iron infested area I go back to the normal threshold and try to pick out the good signals.

In a clean area I'll run supertuned and listen for deep targets.

Jerry,
If I ever get to retirement ... or can find some more travel time, I'll have to come to your area and have you and a couple of others in your neck of the woods, teach me about hunting Civil War relic hunting! ... I find a lot of 22 cal and 9 mm shells and lead and 50's to 60's shot gun shell casings.
Cheers,
tvr
