Cibola GB question

I've been reading about the mod for manual gb for the Cibola. Instead of cutting off the blue pot and soldering wires and adding the 10 turn knob, wouldn't it be the same difference if you just used a small screwdriver to turn the the exsisting little blue pot to manually gb it?
Thanks

If I understand it right, the mod. but here's the thing, yes you can do that, but extending the pot to the outside of the case you have easy access and with the 10 turn pot you have more turns on the pot and more tuning that is available to you. The inside pot does not have that many turns for it to be very useful for this mod. I think I got it right, but someone else could ring in and give a better answer.

If you use the inside pot ,you can over tune or under tune. Also the inside pot is very fragile.Better to replace than to try using
the inside pot.

It's my understanding that tweaking the existing pot for your general soil is okay, but probably not a good idea to use it to ground balance every time you hunt. Also, a very small turn on those small pots can make a considerable adjustment where the larger ones are more forgiving and easier to work with. If you want or desire full manual ground balance why not trade or purchase a machine that is designed with it? My two bits.

Ground balancing via the pot is okay for your soil condition overall to get the detector usable. But to want to tweak on the pot all the time for changing soil condition is not only crude, but probably not good for the little pot. As others suggested, going to an external where it can take allot of adjusting would hold up better in the long run. I just would think an internal pot is made to not be adjusted allot.
I like the GB adjustment the Tejon (and V) has to offer, and a 10-turn would be real nice.
The Cibola is my 1st Tesoro, and since it's preset, it works for my area without major concern. Otherwise I would make an adjustment for my area, but it wouldn't be often like external manual GB detectors are designed for.

swinglow45,

First the external 10 turn pot is heavy duty, say the industrial model + it can be finer tuned than the one on the board.

+ you won't short something else out if your clumsy or wear it out because it wasn't designed to be adjusted all the time.

Use the right type of component for the job.

fact is guys, the internal pot is usually set far too positive to the ground, and believe me you would benefit from this simple conversion nomatter what your ground cond. is,,but you must take your time if you have not done this before and get the full monte from svens post at,,,puddlepirate,,,best of luck lads,,(one thing, as you cant get a pair of cutters under the pot to remove it,dont try to cut it,, i found it best to crush the pot slightly with your cutters and then when its off the board cut off the legs then),,just a tip,,ground yourself and take your time,,just do it,,rgds ,comcat:ukflag:
