Cibola depth problem

I just bought a Cibola that is only a month old. First thing I did after assemling it was do some air tests on it, and am quite concerned. I started with the following setting:
Threshold ...slight hum
Sens...6
Disc...iron

On a clad dime I just start getting a soft repeatable signal at 6"......
now the problem: raising the sensitivity gains no more depth! Even when I turn it all the way up to max boost...still 6". I have previously owned a Vaquero and years ago a Sidewinder uMax...both would get quite noisy at max boost. This Cibola doesn't even make a chirp at max...quiet as a mouse.
So, I turned up the threshold to supertune it...maybe one more inch...that's it. I'm thinking the internal gain is set too low? Should I contact Tesoro? Any other Cibola users here that can chime in on how there's does for an air trst like this?

Sounds like either the sens knob is loose on the shaft or you have a bad sens pot. As you turn the sens knob make sure the shaft is turning with it or try tighting the set screw. If that is not it then call Tesoro and I'm sure they will take care of it.

Air tests have a lot of variables in them. Interference sources change, so being quiet may or may not be a good indicator. Still, I'm with DiggerDug, call Tesoro (and most probably send it in to get checked).
Cheers,
tvr

Make sure your coil wire is screwed in tight.
Have you checked the ground balance?
Battery fully charged?
Tested depth in real dirt?

No ground balance on Cibola.
My concern is that turning the sensitivity up (even to the max) has almost no affect on the distance on the air test. The shaft is definitely turning (Sens knob not loose). Looks like I will be calling Tesoro tomorrow.

There IS ground balance on a Cibola but the adjustment is inside the unit. If it's way off, it will screw things up.
You can tell if it's at least close to being balanced, by taking it outside, above clean ground, and pump it up and down with the pinpoint button pushed.
I would HIGHLY recommend doing this with a C even if you think there's nothing wrong with it. It needs to be set for optimum balance in YOUR SOIL.
You will never know how "right" yours is set until you check it....Check it!
Mine was worthless in my soil the way it was set when I got it. Then after installing the external GB mod, I found out how it's a MUST to get the most out of my rig in all ground conditions.
Just sayin...

my Cibola where never deep -possible the same preset GB, but i noticed another weak point when connected big battery with output 9V started to work a bit deeper, so my conclusion you have to use all ways fresh and expensive batteries, or connect different power block.

Guys I just tested mine and if you watch the video my conditions were very poor, indoors, with lights, ect.. And with a clad dime with Sens at 6, and Disc right above Iron I was getting close to 6". When I cranked the sensitivity up It went way deeper. I also tested a quarter almost a foot deep, Im not sure I want to even dig a foot down with a hand digger:rolleyes:

Whats your Disc level at?
In his first post he said it was at Iron.

I had a Cibola recently and don't remember exactly how it did on air tests but do remember that it did not make a sound at full sensitivity. About every other Tesoro I have owned would "chirp" at full sensitivity. I did set the internal g.b. for my ground. Steve.

Yep, that's what it should do...but not mine....stuck at 6" no matter how high the sens is set or even supertuning it. Going to try it outdoors today but if no difference I will send it in to Tesoro. Bill
