Cibola- DD coil Question.

I've owned my cibola for a couple years now, i bought it for a back up to my Fisher CZ-3d and for my son to use. Recently i have been using it more because of the how light it is and it has been performing pretty good. I was just wondering if DD Wide scan coil would be a worth while investment, from what i gather it's not a deeper coil just better ground coverage than the stock 9x8 coil. I detect a lot of wooded areas that are not that trashy so i thought it would be a good fit, just need some opinions. Also another question i would like to ask other cibola owners is do you tend to run your detector super tuned, because it seems like the Discrimination is not as accurate while it is in use. also i like to tell how deep something is by audio and super tuned the signals sound the same strength. Thank's Folk's HH. Tim

I super tuned mine once. We had hammerd an old CW camp for about 3 months and finds were getting scarce. I super tuned it and wound up diggin about 7 million holes and got 6,999,999 small and large nails out of the holes. Out of 7 million holes I found ONE 3 ringer. I may have not used it enough super tuned for that to be a good example but that is my experience with super tuning. Some folks only use it super tuned, to me it's not worth it...d2

The 12 x 10 DD on the Cibola makes it nose heavy. The Tejon doesn't feel as nose heavy with the same coil. It does cover more area. Doesn't pinpoint quite as accurately as the standard 9x8 but is comparable to pin point accuracy I have with my CZ6a with the standard 8 inch coil; not bad at all just not as spot on as the Tesoro 9x8.

I started running the Cibola super-tuned and found I dug a fair amount of deep bigger iron pieces even with it set to discriminate out iron. I found I liked it a lot more not super-tuning as it discriminates better and does give more information; as you mention.

The link is to a different thread, a couple of replies down there is a discussion of not quite running the threshold all the way up, but still running super-tuned and how the discrimination maintains better function. I haven't played with that method of setting up yet, but will need to.
