Cibola coil cover question

I was wondering if the coil covers that comes on the Cibola's are glued on at the factory. I tried to get mine off to clean the inside of it and it cracked & I had to get a new one.And these are $12.00 plus shipping. And the new one was almost as hard to put on as the old one was to get off. Although I love my Cibola I was surprised to see that the coil wasn't smooth on the bottom. It is like it has a ridge on the bottom of the coil here and there. Kind of like something that should of been sanded smooth but wasn't. Maybe the covers aren't meant to come off, I don't know. But on all my other detectors I ever had I always took them off to clean them with no problems. Thanks! Steve.

Mine came off with a struggle, but didn't crack. I've heard others have covers that crack like yours did. I guess it depends on how tight the clearances are. I took mine off after reading that it will trap water and dirt making the detector false. So far so good!!!

The covers are a tight fit and require working them off a little at a time. I read a post here awhile back where someone was using water pressure to get the covers off. That sounds like it would work well and I am going to try that next time I clean mine.

Most coil covers are a tight fit, so what I did with mine was to sand down the inside surfaces until I got it to the point where it slipped on and off easily. Don't worry if you overdo it somewhat because then you simply add some thin strips of tape (masking) to the cover's inside vertical sides to tighten it up. It will always come off easily with some gentle prying.

I found that best way to take it off was to start at the ankle portion. It will pull away there better than anywhere else. Then move your way around the coil, a bit at a time. I found that my Vaquero would start doing odd things, especially when pinpointing. I took the cover off and found bits and pices in there. Considering how tight that coil fit is the stuff must have teleported in from another universe or something. After removal no issues, I kept it off.
