CIbola arm rest extension

Well-known member
Started to work on the Cibola. Mechanical work first.

My elbow gets sore and I have noticed it is not as bad if the arm rest is as near to right behind my elbow as I can get it. I have one detector that I can adjust it that far up; my CZ20. So I am going to start modifying the others.

With it mounted high behind the elbow it makes me swing more from the shoulder and not twist the elbow and over reach as much. Also changes the torque moment arm with respect to the elbow.

I got some aluminum tubing, 3/4 and 7/8. The 7/8 matches the Tesoro shaft tubing size and the 3/4 slides inside the 7/8. Add a couple of 8-32 x 1 inch long screws with cap nuts and bolt it together.

Made extensions in the kitchen, drilling by hand since it was pretty cold in the garage today. One hole slightly off center (can notice in the picture of parts before assembly) but it all bolts up straight. The arm rest used to bolt up where the two bolts to the left are through the original part of the Cibola shaft.

Before you ask if I mounted it upside down ... I flipped the whole detector assembly over before I took the second picture; it really is right side up.

Not sure how this ended up as a second post. Hit the post button for a reply to the "sore arm" post.

Nice! You got that looking right there! What you said about 'swinging from the shoulder' is perfect advice...even rocking the upper half of the body so momentum carries the rig through the arc, and the arm is just sort of going along for the ride is worthy if a fellow is sweeping a big beach or sportsfield...

TVR, similar to you i was having problems, mine mostly wrist and hand. The original arm wrest that came with the f75ltd did not work for me. Here is a picture i posted before. I took several rest off my other machines, rest that had slots for velcro straps. That was the ticket, it added a nice counter point to my wrist, which was getting over worked, and fatigued. When the wrist fatigued a lot of the work was then transferred to the hand and fingers, which ended up giving me numbness, burning and pain. This set up, particularly the cuff closer to the vertical hand grip, contained the wrist in a neutral position, allowing the bigger UE muscles to do the work. I use wide straps, if set up right you just slide your arm in and out "the tunnel" formed by the straps not having to fasten and unfasten the velcro every time. This 75ltd is so lite to begin with the extra trough weight was negligible and the benefits out weighed the cons. The velcro on the glove thing pictured here i dont use any more, the hook part filled with debris too often. Good Hunts, CO

Great idea. I used a center rod for the same thing as well. makes good to keep those old extra shafts and rods laying around. LOL
