Christmas Coke bottles...

thinkin2

New member
the old 6 oz. (I think) green Coca-Cola bottles that have the Dec. 25, 1928? patent date. Are they worth anything? I know these don't compare to what many of you show and talk about here but I have a couple and was just wondering. Thanks.

Hi Jerry,
Here in Australia the large old hour glass shaped green glass coke bottles are worth about $25.00 aussie currency. I've seen them sold for this amount in antique shops and auctions.

Thanks, Angela. These aren't too large, only about 6 ounce capacity, I think, but they are the old green, glass bottles with the Coca-Cola trademark embossed on the bottle and a patent date of Dec. 25, 1928? I've heard them referred to as "Christmas Coke" bottles because of the date, not due to any decorations or anything like that. I'll have to get off my lazy rear and check the year but I think it's 1928, at least close. They are the same kind of bottle we used to get out of the machines here in the states for a dime when I was a kid. Thanks again and have a good day.

Way back when I was in college I was a bottlehunter. From that period,
I remember the bottles you're speaking of ...and that they brought a
"somewhat" higher price over other raised-letter cokebottles. But as I
said, that was a long time ago. So I'll suggest nowadays you check
Ebay for current-day values. Also do a websearch for the phrase
"Christmas Coke".

Jerry, I was curious enough to to a little web-searching myself about your "Christmas Coke" bottles. One site said (if I recall correctly) it was patented Dec. 25, 1923 and produced from 1928 to 1938 ...HOWEVER, it was reproduced (by the Coca-Cola company itself) in 1989. So, just as we say in civil-war relic collecting, "Watch out about repro stuff." ;-)

You might find this article interesting (Dec25 1923 cokes from $9.99 - 24.95):

Thanks for taking the time to do some legwork, Pete. You're always a very helpful person. I also went ebay and googled some sites and found the same info. The ones I have are pretty old, I found them a long time ago. They don't appear to be worth much but are interesting. I'll keep them. They are Charleston, S.C. bottles. I had more but gave at least one to my sister-in-law some years back. Thanks again for the info and the links.
