Wanted a proven gold getter for my meanderings into the CA gold country so decided on the Scorpion. It

That's a wise way of looking at the issue and ones need.

Buy a tool for what it Can do; not for what you hope it will do.

LOL Orion I wouldn't be holding my breath for those pix. I've got a site picked out and a green light to go but the first trip up in cupple-three weeks (for one day) is probably going to be mostly legwork and getting the lay of the land. And yeah John, I know I've got a new learning curve to deal with but it's going to be an enjoyable one. Looking forward to some experiments locally first. My only question now is why didn't I get the Scorp as a first detector to start with? Seems so simple now.

John,

How do you do so well with the Scorpion on finding rings? I have heard this detector is obsolete .Have also heard the same about my TesoroLobo ST since it has not been updated since it came out around 1997 I think it was. What settings do you use on the Scorpion and do you dig all beeps? Being 54 years old now, I have a hard time digging all beeps, I can get down to dig but have a hard time getting up again so I tend to be picky about my digging more. If I could just stand up and dig ,like with my beach scoop, I would dig most of the beeps, but i cannot use a beach scoop in grassy areas.
Thanks.Ps, I also own an Ace 250,Whites MXT, Whites TDI.I like the Ace 250 the best but have found no rings yet. I have all 3 coils and the Sunray pinpointer with it.

The Scorp is one of the best detectors that Garrett has ever put out .Most of the folks that I know swear by it. You made a very good choice.
Good Luck on your trip.
HAPPY HUNTING
TRIPLE-SSS

You've made a wise choice. Always get the right machine for the right job. The Scorp is still around because it's a good machine and still sells. You have three detectors in one - a proven gold finder, relic hunter, and coinshooter, andI might add it ain't too shabby on rings.. Where can you go wrong? It has a bit of a learning curve but not like some detectors. I think you'll do quite well with it.
