Which one of the three would you choose for wet/dry salt beaches, Nugget shooting in Colorado & Arizona, Jewelry and some coin shooting? How do they rate against the MXT? I will be using the detector in Nevada and California this summer as well as Texas beaches and such. Im saving for the GPX4500 and want something the wife can use when we nugget hunt and also one that we can use for odds and ends when not in the west.

If you do not care about finding gold nuggets about smaller than 1 gram, then the Soveriegn GT (in All-Metal Auto-Tracking mode) will do, as it is no good for use on very small gold nuggets. I was told that by Dick Shultz from Minelab.

The Sovereign GT is the best of all 4 detectors you mentioned on WET saltwater sand, except for the GPX 4500 which is the best but it has very, very poor discrimination and is about 7 times more expensive.

The Garrett Infinium LS is much more lightweight and compact than the GPX 4500. The GPX 4500 is better though. Both are the best for wet saltwater sand and gold prospecting finding sub-gram nuggets BUT are Pulse Inductions and have very poor discrimination again.

The high frequency VLF's will find a little smaller gold nuggets and finer specimens than a Pulse Induction in the goldfield. But the VLF's will not handle the high mineralized ground and hot rocks as well.

The MXT is very good as others have raved about(I have never owned one) but not as good as the X-Terra 70(5).

The Tesoro Lobo ST is also good and a very simple to use analog dial-knob unit but again the X-Terra 70(5) is better.

If you are hunting some wet saltwater sand but mainly dry salt sand. Multi-purpose land coin and jewelry hunting and for prospecting for gold nuggets(great for use on sub-gram size) get the X-Terra 705 then with the Pro Package with the non-waterproof 5x10 HF DD coil and also the waterproof 6" HF DD.

One unit won't do it all and Sov. GT is a heavy unit for the Wife...even though Sov's usually excell at saltwater beaches...Never cared much for the MXT but just personal and the Older XT70 or new XT705 is a lightweight package that should cover it all well with its many facets..Might bring this up at a club meeting or planted hunt between hunts and of course a lot of research helps...Good luck on your new X-terra 70 or 705 should cover it all...

Thanks alot for the feedback. You can tell that this forum has some good people on it.

Going with the 705. Chris from AZO needs to hurry and get back to the office...lol! Thanks to all who helped me make this decision.
