Thanks for posting the link, I just bought it :)

Plus, The seller is from Visalia which is where I live. Funny though, I have been looking for one of these and here one pops up in my back yard.

The detector is more like the 5900 Di series, It has a manual ground balance but it also has a Multi-tone discrimination for specifying between quarters, dimes, etc. However, I did read it has both an auto-trac and GB feature so I'll relay this back on the forum when I know for sure but I don't see it having both.

Still, It's close to the 6000 Di models minus the multi-tone and maybe minus the auto-trac feature.

I already have the 5900 Di-Pro SL model and an older 6000 Di series 3 which is the same as the 5900 Di-Pro SL with manual ground balance only packaged in the older blue box housing and the kHz is slightly different.

My intentions are to compare the Chinese junk with the Whites 5900 Di Series model, Hopefully it fares the same but for $90 bucks I can always use the parts for other detectors if the Junker falls short.

Thanks again for posting the link,
Paul (Ca)

Paul, I almost pulled the trigger on the buy it now button myself! As I already own the 4900DL/Max and the XL Pro, I somehow convinced myself not to.
It is interesting you say it has the tone id on it and a manual ground balance, an improvement we all desired for our XL Pro machines. This is all in a XL Pro size and battery configuration. Too bad Whites couldn't come through for us on this one. The 4900/5900/6000/XL Pro machine are some of their best machines, many of us swear by them as our number one machine.
Please keep us posted on your comparisons between the Whites and it's dare I say it's improved copy. After all China makes the very computer you are typing on, they have come a long way.
Here is the owner's manual for those folks who would like to read it:
http://www.famoustrails.com/md9300.htm
I see Toys r Us are carrying them:http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1326150
These are going to sell like hotcakes as it is quite a bargain. It is cheaper than a Garrett Ace 250 and maybe cheaper than an ID conversion for the XL Pro!:surprised:

Seems there is an improvement on the battery consumption from the XL Pro as well, the 9300 Advanced gets 70-80 hours to a set of alkalines.:yikes:
The boys on the Whites forum ain't gonna like this!:drinking:

PennyFinder

From reading the manual, I see this is by no means a complete copy of either a 5900 or 6000 model White

Bob,

It too beleive it has a pre-set GB disc mode but look at the picture it does have a GB for all-metal mode, Look at the far left corner of the pic.

Hopefully, This GB carries over to disc mode. I'll know when I pickup the detector.

Paul (Ca)

In the manual it states there is an internal pot to adjust in the Disc mode. It is factory set at slightly positive of ferrite. This looks like the first mod for the machine. It's to install an external adjustable pot for ore testing in prospecting tasks and to adapt heavy mineralized soil conditions. No other $150 machine can do all of this that I am aware of.

the chinese are opportunists and clearly view this as a marketing opportunity!....white's won't make it?..they will and a lot cheaper too!..thay have in effect f**ked up the global economy by flooding the world wide markets with cheaply made "crap!"

this is true, however it is a sad testement to our society that these detectors even exist!....

I do hope it works out well for you Paul. Like you wrote, you will know a lot more about the machine when you actually get your hands on it and start working with it.

Good luck,
Bob

Most major North American companies farm out most of the labour offshore or down in Mexico or South America these days. I remember working on a fellows Chevy truck and I was going to put quality North American jobber parts in his truck and he insisted he wanted "Genuine GM" parts put in. Well of course I obliged as the customer is always right and brought in the "Genuine GM" parts like he asked...guess where they were made? Made in China! So much for keeping the jobs at home there folks. Ford and Fiat... I mean Dodge is no different. Why even Toyota is going to build trucks in Canada.
Don't fault the offshore people and maybe look closer to home... like the union busting corporate types and the governments that are bought by them. Only they forget those hard working Americans are the ones that buy the washers and driers and stuff they farm out offshore. Who is going to buy them if the corporations got rid of all the American jobs? Can you say recession? Yeah we better pay all those C.E.Os a bonus for their vision and leadership alright, my #ss!
Most if not all electronic components are made in China like everything else. Watch India and their massive cheap labour pool in the next few years.
Did you notice the stem on the MD-9300 looks like a Garrett stem? It's no coincidence.
Isn't Famous Trails an American company? They just make stuff where there is a cheap labour market and lax enviromental laws, just like everybody else. Walmart has become an outlet for Chinese goods and it is not because China forced us.
We are burning the candle on both ends people.
The other day I lucked out and found a Made in USA frying pan the other day at a second hand store the other day, you know the hard to find 12" one. Boy am I living in the past I thought to myself. Think I'll make some flapjacks and chill out a bit.

it's truly a shame!..this hasn't happened overnight, however it HAS happened, and we are now "slaves" to a third world economy!..we only have ourselves to blame!..the plain and simple of it is it just costs too damn much to live here!..period!

Paul, how's the 9300 working out? This sounds like a nice little kick around detector, sure is priced right. Does it have the depth of the Whites Pro's?

PennyFinder

this is a real possibility!..we owe 'em the world now!..f**king embarassing!

Sorry for the slow reply, Just now seen you had asked for my review on the new detector.

Well, It's an ok detector but it falses allot, unless you scale back the sens down to low settings hen yhou may get in a decent hunt out in the school ground grassy areas. Plus, In wood chips (tot lot) it is worthless.

I would say for anyone interested in this detector to not buy it, Unless you want it for parts on a future mod swaping out circuit boards. Which is what I did on an my last Chinese made detector.

All the best,
Paul (Ca)
