I saw one of these about a month ago scanning through the forum. Any one have any clue of its origin or time frame. Thanks

Sorry ! You got to do the research on your Coin. As the story goes, at one time the Chinese economy was so bad, the Chinese attached the coins to baskets (as decoractions) and shipped and sold them here. Many Chinese also worked on building the railroads here. I am not Chinese so I do not know what Dynasty it is from.........

NICE FIND !!!!!!

but doggone if I can find it now. There are even fakes of these. Whitman did use them as decorations on their candy baskets in the 1920's and I imagine a lot of kids got them off the baskets and played with them. There are stories of Asian workers bringing the coins here in the 1850's, but I suspect that not very many brought them here because thay had little to no value. Very few are worth any money, but they can be quite old, dating back to the 1700's or even earlier. An interesting find. And these are known generally as Chinese "cash" coins. Sorry I could not be of more help.

If you take it to your local dealer, they should have a foreign price book with the different markings to tell you what each symbol means. I tried figuring it out once with some of my Chinese cash coins but it is pretty hard to distinguish each marking. Maybe you will have better luck than I did. It might just take a while to figure it out Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
