Ok i found this buried about a foot in the ground, i know its amazing i didnt crush this thing with the shovel i was using.. it took me forever to do i hope it was worth it!! there are no markings on this piece which tells me its probably junk but hey what do i know....

That looks like something American or European probably 1830 to 1930 and possibly later. Lids don't often bear makers marks and the pattern has been applied by transfer as opposed to hand painted. If it where blue on white and hand painted it could be a century or more older. Chinese motifs have been copied and faked in the west for centuries as have the Chinese copied popular western designs and shipped them west for sale to us.

I am by no means an expert but I do find fragments of the real thing where I dive in Newfoundland and have learned a fair bit about them. I actually have the proverbial Ming (Ming period emperor) Chinese bowl which I got at a garage sale. 350 years old, hand painted, bought for 5 cents from a Chinese lady, who did not know what it was. Value of similar bowls on Ebay, $50! There where a lot of Ming bowls made and there where a lot of Chinese at the time.

That being said it is a likely antique and could be a sought after pattern, lids are handled a lot and are often broken so before throwing it out you might want to visit some antique dealer for an opinion. It might be worth more than $50 to the right person.

have fun
