Well, I had a pretty good week down at the Chinese gardens ruins. I got three hunts in and finally got the finds scrubbed up and photographed.
Since I'm fond of marbles, here are the 18 from this week:
Ask and you shall receiveth! Maybe two days after telling someone that I wanted to find a toy or real pistol soon, I found a rough but fairly complete DIck Tracy cap gun. Your turn, Bart! Also found an old telegraph key.
I really enjoyed finding these two items - the knife was a promotional item for a (long defunct) local grocer (no blade, part of back missing - I epoxied the parts that I could find together). The pin is brass and I just like the style of it - very 'CCC' looking. I haven't figured out who U.V.C. Co. was, any help appreciated!!
I was hitting the bottle pretty hard this week, too! I found another early Coke bottle (chip on lip), and a very nice 6.5 oz. Pepsi Swirl bottle with minimal wear. I like the "Drink Barq's, It's Good" bottle, too, and the squiggly ones are marked 'Trappey's". The broken one didn't show up well, it says 'Nesbitt's of California'.
Found a trade token for one pint of milk (Tigger claimed this one), and a little copper disc that I almost tossed, it was just crusted over. I was pleased to find the (Thunderbird?) Indian symbol and can read the year, 1943 and at the bottom "NM ?????" I'll do some research when time permits.
Nothing like a little silver to put a smile on your face, and this was my last find of the third hunt, made it kinda hard to leave. Cleaned up pretty nice & weighs in at a slim .6 oz.
A few other highlights: jockey on horse (bottom damaged), I always enjoy finding keys (clock key, I think), and one Great Seal general service by a new mfg. for me, 'Sigmund Eisner of Red Bank'. Also, a military tag - not a dog tag, maybe someone can provide more info.
Here's a brass faceplate from a 1928 radio set, the "Crosley Showbox", a pretty state of the art setup for those days!
What's life without a little fun? Too bad the TootsieToy and Fageol vehicles are toasted - the Fageol would have been worth $25 - $40.
I always find lots of personal items like cosmetics and such:
& housey stuff:
and the inevitable iron :
There you have it. I also collected about 25# of mostly copper and brass for recycling (one thimble-full at a time), heh. It's just gas money in the bank for later!
Hope you all had a great week, too, and Happy Hunting!
