Found this coin while planting bulbs. I live in Virginia City Nevada, an old mining town, so it's the norm to dig up something when working in the yard (other then rocks and weeds). I just can't figure out the markings. I've tried different websites trying to identify the markings myself, and I'm starting to get a headache.

Thanks!

Always nice to see there are still some around to find. Back around 1992, a friend had me come to his home on the outskirts of Blackfoot Idaho to search for a Black Hills Gold ring his teen daughter claimed to of lost in the yard. I was detecting and pin pointing with my Garrett Freedom II Coin Commander and Jack was doing the digging. In the back yard I had a good sound and told him to dig. He came up with a round flat piece and said it must be an old washer from a lawn mower or something and got ready to toss it. I saw enough of it though dirty and instantly told him don't throw it. I told him to push on the center and out came the dirt producing a square hole.

He took it to an archeology Professor he knew at Idaho State Univ. and he was not able to figure out who the Emperor was but said it was for real as the corners had a tendency to crack and this one had them I believe in 3 of the 4 corners of the hole. Jack had offered it to me saying I found it but being humble, I said no, it came from your yard and just get me a picture of it. Never did get a picture of it and as for the ring his daughter claimed to have lost, never found it as she at last admitted had sold it and it belonged to her girl friend.

His home was built in an area just on the fringes of Blackfoot where back in the day of the railroads, the Chinese camped.

Great find, hope you locate more and thanks for sharing, Robert

Millions and millions of these Chinese cash coins are found here. I have a bunch myself from Michigan. Unfortunately your pictue is rather small. You might be able to clean it up by boiling some hydrogen peroxide in the microave and putting the coin in it. Do it a couple of times and then let it sit for a few days in olive oil.

If you could crop the picture and make it bigger, I might be able to tell you more about it. None are worth much though.

I forget the chinese coin site I went to but the same thing happened to me. I started from oldest to newest and went through every coin photo matching the symbols. I should have started from newest to oldest. Yours looks like a more recent dynasty (its similar to mine).
