Checked out the new Minelab E-Trac and came home with an XLT.

After reading so much about the new Minelab machine, I was able to check it out in person yesterday and found, that apart from a faster processor, it really didn't offer anything new to help with target discrimination than the older Explorers, but I did spy a second hand XLT sitting in the back of the shop. Having had a long interest in it, I didn't hesitate to buy it.:jump: It seems to be an older unit with the rainbow transfers on it.
It will be an interesting unit to learn, so I guess that I'll probably have a few questions along the way. Having only played around with it on some test targets at home, I assume that the secret to learning thing machine, will listening for clues in it's audio system.

Good choice Mick....I got a new White's M6 coming from the USA....good, honest, quality detectors without the unecessary "bling" factor.

There is really no changes from your spectrum xlt to the current models. If you own an xlt you own an xlt.

G,day Mick. On board with a Whites mate! I reckon your right about the E Track, old book/ new cover. I wonder if its capable of picking up a virus via the USB port connection?
Wouldn't Minelab love that after the disastrous GP4500 fiasco recall if all of a sudden a virus was downloaded that crashed the E Tracks!
Have a good one Mick.
Oh yeah, hey Tony what about Goldsearch Australia? Just kiddin:lol:

Good luck with the M6 Tony. That, and the MXT were on my wish list, but now that I've got the XLT, I'll stay with that. I've heard some good reports about the MXT's on our coins. As the M6 is basically an MXT with a few different bells, you should do well with it.
I hadn't thought about the virus angle BT. Very nasty if it happened. It seems that Minelab has dumbed the E-Trac a bit. For what ever reason, all coin type targets will now only give a ferrous reading of 12 (+ or - 1). That won't help with sorting screw caps from coins. Where they would bounce around a bit, they now can't. Although, you were always going to have screw caps that have the same footprint, now that number has increased..
You sure do get around Kenny. You sound like you like to swing a variety of detectors.:detecting: Sounds good to me. Which Whites unit do you swing?

Mick,
I've had a variety of White's since 1984. I really used the 3900d coinmaster the most. I have had two m6's in the past 2 years. I have been fortunate to have ran several Whites although for short periods. I personally ran a classic 3 and modified IDX for a long time also. I'm really waiting for a light, powerful unit from Whites. Something under 3 pounds with full notch disc and GB. I have and have used some other brands too. I'm no expert by any means. I learn every time I hunt. But lately that's not been too often because of my work load and kids football.

Yeah. Family life can get pretty busy. That's one of the things that I like about the hobby, you can duck out when you have some spare time. No messy setting up. Just grab your detector, and you're away.
You may get your wish soon enough, as there was such a detector discussed on this forum only recently.

Mick,
I hope the detector doesn't have smart notch. I want to decide the notching. I hope it runs on 4 AA batteries. Better have adjustable GB and weigh under 3 pounds. Needs to have plenty of accessory coils. Oh, and cost under $300.00 Is that too much to ask?

Watch the sigograph or what ever it's called (bars on a scale on the right) pull tabs will be a standard pattern(if i remember right, side by side with one a little shorter), jewlery will be close but have extra bars on the scale. Plus all the cool adjustments, I'm a eternal tinkerer with the settings. Bottom line good machine.
