Took my ATP out for a two hr. stroll submersed at about 2' depth. Only found $1.42 in change. Got several hard silver signals that rang higher than quarters hitting 86-90 VDI but couldn't get them to turn loose from the hardpan. This lake has about 1 1/2 of sand and then a gravel, rock, clay hardpan. Anyway I gave up the water after my ATP started falsing real bad. I got out of the water, turned off my detector, dryed it off and waited about 15 min. turned it back on still chattering, throwing up high 30's vdis. I noticed that my battery indicator was flashing. I thought Aha! need to change batteries, which I did no help, aborted my mission. By this time I'm a little perturbed thinking it leaked again. I just got it back from Garrett for a leaking problem. I must say the batteries they put in it were copper topped and lasted for approx. 24 hrs. of use before showing any sign of draining. I got home cleaned everything up and pulled the batteries out. I noticed that both ends of the battery holder had an apparent bow on the end. I noticed when I changed batteries at the lake that the holder appered to be really weak feeling unlike the battery holder that I had before sending it in for repair. Further investigation reveals a hairline crack on both ends of the battery pack. At first they appeared as a manufacturs grain in the plastic but after looking at them under a loop they are definite cracks in the material. I also noticed prior to taking the batteries pack out that the control box lid seemed to be protruding a fraction or so,enough to see light between the cover and the control box. I think the bowed ends of the battery holder actually pushed the cover out and was causing the batteries to make a very loose connection. I will be contacting Garrett tomorrow to have them send me a new battery holder. So if your ATP starts going haywire for no known reason check the battery holder very closely for uneven ends and hairline cracks.

Dropped by battery holder on the floor and busted an end off. I super glued it back together and it has been peachy since last year.
