gents: i was told by explorer ll owner that m/l refuses to work on old explorers and older models.they rather you buy newer model is this right?i have heard this lots of times from other members too.:confused:also that their charge is very expensive?can someone give me some feed back please?:shocked:thank you.-----------------------------------------------------------CJM

Anytime you get a detector fixed not under warranty its expensive and it dont matter who the company is. The only detector ML has discussed NOT fixing is the XS... the one before the Exp II and only then if they cant get the parts for you. This shouldnt be a surprise either the XS has been out for a long time and its just not cost effective to maintain parts.

[size=large]from what i've been reading Garrett and Whites are the cream of the crop for repairing older machines free or with little charge.
All the makers would rather you buy new instead of fixing the old.Minelab seems to have problems with high prices and slow service. i didn't make the rep they earned it on their own. i like my explorer se pro but won't buy another til i hear ml has improved greatly in the service and parts dept.
thats my take.

I just bought a used Minelab Explorer II from from a fella here in Canada. He had just gotten the machine back from Minelab who replaced the display and key pad, performed a tune-up and it only cost him $119.00. I now have a freshly tuned Explorer II with a brand new display and key pad that works very well.

So...at least at present...Minelab will perform service to the Explorer II and $119 is very reasonable for the work done IMHO. Of course there will come a time when they won't have parts available but until that time it's in their best interest to continue to service them. After warranty service is their second biggest revenue stream....I doubt they'll stop until they absolutely have to which will be determined by when parts are no longer available.

Give 'em a call.

Just received my Explorer xs back from ML for repairs, cost me $90. I bought this machine new in '99. I had thought that they wouldn't be able to fix it, but they surprised me.
Took it out today to try it out & it seems to run like new.

I have a sovereign xs that they will no longer service. I read where they no longer service the explorer xs. Rates were 65 per hour plus parts last time I checked. I don't know about wait times. I don't see how parts would be an issue. Other companies don't seem to have this problem. Besides how do they know they can't get the parts if they won't look at the unit
