... it's on both my cell phone bill and our land line bill at the store and at our home.
It's called "USF" (Federal Universal Service Fund) surcharge or "FUSC" surcharge. On a land line, the charge is now 17.9 % of long distance charges and subscriber line charge. On my cell bill its an additional 4.08% of wireless charges in addition to the 17.9%.
What's this charge for you might ask? "In addition to providing access to comparable telephone service for subscribers in all areas of the United States, this Federally created fund assists with affordable telecommunications for rural health care, schools, libraries, and some low income users".
That's right folks. The cell phone commercials you see for free / subsidised cellphone service for low income / unemployed, etc, and the photos you see of folks standing in the food stamp / welfare line talking on their cell phone / smart phone is paid for by all of us not on welfare.
This "contribution" is subject to change each calendar year as prescribed by the FCC.
Wonder who told the unelected FCC folks that they could tax / take our money and give to others more deserving of it than we are?
Vote in primaries and vote in November .... do not re-elect any one other than the current new tea party folks who need more new tea party folks to end these "entitlements".
