This group of folks dug all these bottles from a Civil War latrine at the recent DIV hunt held in VA. After this photo was taken at 10:00 AM on day three of the hunt, they dug another 40 bottles out of the latrine. Other finds in the hole were several very ornate pipe bowls, accourterment plates, bullets by the hundreds. Bottles were still rolling out of the hole in the last minutes of the hunt, but we had to fill-er-in and hope to come back another day!

If you know of any long term Civil War camps you might want to start thinking about looking for the latrine. This one was found by digging a cutnail! The digger noticed a layer of ash in the hole and just followed it into a treasure trove of relics. The pit ended up being 60 feet long by 8 feet wide and was still going when we left!

Nice pic and great recovery of bottles. Now I gotta start re-thinking every cut nail I dig. What was the overall total count of bottles from the latriene when the event finished?

Any flasks in there?

Plain flasks dug and after this picture was taken a clasped hands/eagle flask in green came out! Also a very nice dark green quart sized Hospital Dept. bottle was dug!
