Chatty VX3

I had to bury my old XLT finally . So I bought a VX3 At almost every swing you get about 30 hits are they all this way ? How can I get this thing to hit on the nickel better . I appreciate any and all advice . The only adjustments I have made are VCO and Tone ID . I am trying to run in Coin and Jewelry . I have found that if you just barely move the coil you can sometimes get it to stay somewhat near the same ID mumbersbut not always . I miss the XLT lol . Larry

As with almost all detectors, you adjust for stability before hunting. On your XLT that was Gain, AC, DC and on the VX3, it would be RX Gain, Discrimination and All metal Sensitivity. If you can't get stability that way, you might have a bad coil. If you have a spare coil to try, that will eliminate that possibility. My guess is if you lower the RX Gain and/or change locations, you will get stability.

Like Larry sead it mite be a bad coil, The VX3 has 2 filters a 5 / and a 12 if the Ground is Wet or a lot of minerals with the 5 filter defalt from the Factry you mite get some falsing??? Try the 12 Heaver filter?? It Helped me with my VX3, And yes lower RX Gain, If you have interferens from RF try a single Freq 2,5 or 7,5 thats way Larry sead move to a different spot, Mickfin

I'm not sure what it is you are hearing but I'm going to guess it's really small bits of metal and such. (I believe you have to check to see if it's falsing - like are these signals consistent/repeatable, then it's not falsing). After watching one of my videos, (I think it was) Rob that mentioned to me to drop my Disc sensitivity from where I was running at (90-95) to 85 and that really quieted down my hunt. Even an Rx that is too high can cause lots of falsing but I've noticed it's more on iron (but my ground is FULL of iron mineralization).

For a new user I'd give this one piece of strong advice. DON'T adjust more than one setting at a time, even with the VX3 you have a lot of options. For example. Let's say your RX is at 12 and your Disc is at 90. Just play with RX for a while and see what it does. Then switch over to Disc. Only after you get a feel for them would I recommend touching both at the same time. AND ALWAYS GB when you play with sensitivity, it is a noticeable improvement.

You should also do a zoom + sensitivity as well as a zoom + ground tracking to get an idea of where your ground is at. Then when you go to a new site you can do it there as well and this will help you to better set up your detector. Just do a search for info on those options. They are also in the collection of posts I uploaded that is a few threads down.

oops - Also, make sure your GB is RIGHT ON. I actually have luck with auto track.

I hope that helped,
Albert
