CHATTINESS on Etrac no matter what?

banditicey

New member
I will be using my husbands Etrac while mine was sent away today for service10 days r
He will be away with our son for 10 days on Boys Scout Sea Base program sailing from Florida to Carribean
He had been complaining about noise on during any program he used while we detected with our Etracs
WELL, no joke it was awful
A constant series of noises that only stopped when it was a certain coin hit
I have ridden a motorcycle in the past and it felt like I was buzzed as it does at the end of a
long motorcycle trip
I tried using other programs and playing with the volume and threshold without success

ANY SUGGESTIONS..PLEASE

cant have bothEtrac's in for service at the same time

Hello banditicey,

Fortunately, I have yet to run into a situation like that with the E-trac, but over the years I had several
similar experiences with the Explorer II. This means that all my suggestions come from those experiences
and may or may not directly apply to the E-trac.

In the city where I live, there are a few areas where the ordinances require all power lines to be underground. These
areas are very noisy and with myriad adjustments in many different categories, the problems weren't always changed
to any great extent. Sadly, on those occasions, because of underground power lines or other interference, I had to move to different
locations, where the detecting environment was more hospitable.

Where underground power lines aren't an issue, try limiting your target acceptance range to just coins or even
the upper half or less of the coin range.

Sensitivity gain can be an issue. I found with my Explorer II, that in some situations I had to limit my sensitivity to
the bottom half or third of the range to significantly reduce the noise. The detector still found targets, but not the deep 12 inch
targets.

Very rarely, did I have to make adjustments in more than one area of the detector's many options, but there were
some occasions where I was able to solve the problem doing that.

Once in a while I was able to solve the problem by rebooting, turning the detector off, waiting a few minutes and
turning it back on.

As with all, "Off the top of anyone's head," thoughts, I'm certain I've missed some other simple adjustments you could
try, but these might get you started in a positive direction.

Respectfully,

The Nutty Teacher

Thank you for your time and information
It appears to be a sensitivity issue but time will tell
What is confusing is that we both have fairly new Etracs purchased from the same dealer
and have used the same programs but his Etrac continued to have the "chatter" and
mine did not have "chatter" at the same location and on the same program?!
Regards and HH

to fairly compare they both have to be on the same channel and same exact sensitivity setting. all the settings would have to be identical. were they? try a different channel (noise cancel or manually select), and turn the sensitivity down, go with auto +0 and see if that helps.

(it sounds like its on manual 27 or something.)

I do noise cancel when I start detecting
He has not appreciated the need yet to do the same but I will remind him
I did not remember that you can choose your channel so maybe when we both have our Etracs
and we start detecting I'll check to make sure they are on the same settings and go from there

Thanks again for the help, I just believed that it is fixable with the help from friends

Hi banditicey,

Do you have the opportunity to try another coil? Is your dealer close enough to borrow one from there? A bad coil may produce that effect.

Does this problem happen wherever you go, including far out in the country?

My eTrac will chatter terribly in some very bad EMI settings.

Thank you for your thoughts and efforts on my behalf
It is actually the husbands Etrac, mine is in the shop, I'm using his while he is using the DFX which we used to use before the Etrac
He is letting me use his Etrac because I will be going to England in September and he did not want me to miss a beat
There is a humm that remains on his Etrac which is too loud for me but the chatter has been corrected with setting adjustments, mostly sensitivity
I have an original grey ghost that adjusts the hum for me so all is good
HH

The hum is the threshold volume I run at 15 on one machine and 14 on my other and you can just barely hear it with headphones. I also changed my threshold sounds to 10 from 15 and it gave me a better seperation on the sounds in multi conductive.

Chatter may have been cause he ran manual sensitivity and you run in auto. Also i always noise cancel at the start of every hunt let the machine pick where it feels is best to run. Do it after sweeping the ground so no metal or nulling under the coil first.

Thank you for the numbers
I started some different programs and the settings had
your number recommendations as required by the program
all is well and I even got a Thank you from the husband today after we detected
Rare and he said his recent success are because of my adjustments to his ETrac:inlove:
